National museum hosts Goodbye Art exhibition
Thursday, July 18,2024AsemconnectVietnam - Blurring the lines between selling art and the art itself is the aim of a new exhibition at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts.
Twenty artworks by Vietnamese contemporary artist He Quach Bac are on show at Goodbye Art which highlights an installation named (Goodbye my art)ⁿ taking a mathematically-inspired approach to the artist's works.
Quach Bac continues to propose a ceaseless transactional process of buying and selling art, with all the certificates and artworks being endlessly integrated and intertwined to infinity.
"Saying goodbye to art is not the end, but saying goodbye to the past is a chance to welcome something new," said Bac at the opening ceremony. "It is an affirmation of the artist's endless creativity aiming for innovation and discovery."
Applying traditional painting techniques on used acrylic material, Quach Bac reproduced and enlarged the ordinary certificates of authenticity for artworks.
He turned them into surprising and rather humorous works of art which at first glance give viewers the impression that they are 'redundant' pieces.
At some point in the art's development, it is the values of the certificates that the artist holds in highest regard, rather than the art work itself.
Goodbye Art is Quach Bac's fourth solo exhibition, following previous shows Waterscape, Falling into the Horizon and Sky of Fame.
Born in 1988 in Hanoi, Quach Bac has participated in 20 different group exhibitions in both Hanoi and HCM City.
The Goodbye Art exhibition is organised by Chau & Co Gallery and curated by Hoang Minh Chau. It runs daily until July 21 from 9am to 5pm at 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc street.
An art tour with the artist and curator will be held at 10am on July 20./.
