Tien Giang: Rice exports to the Philippines explode, increasing by nearly 100%

AsemconnectVietnam - At the end of the first quarter, the Philippines was Tien Giang's largest rice import market, reaching nearly 20 million USD, nearly double that of the same period last year.

On afternoon of March 27, answering reporters of Cong Thuong Newspaper, Mr. Luu Van Phi - Director of Department of Industry and Trade of Tien Giang province - said: In the first 3 months of 2025, industrial production in the province continued to maintain a good growth rate, up 9.5% over the same period in 2024. In particular, processing and manufacturing industry continued to increase, playing a leading role in promoting the province's economic growth.
In particular, some key industrial products of Tien Giang in the first quarter of 2025 all increased compared to the same period last year. Specifically: Frozen seafood reached about 31,000 tonnes, up 47.7% over the same period; animal feed reached about 207,000 tonnes, up 16.9% over the same period; ready-made clothes reached about 4.7 million products, up 6.5% over the same period...
Goods export is also a bright spot in the economic picture of Tien Giang province in the first months of the year. Specifically, the export turnover in the first quarter of 2025 reached 1.4 billion USD, an increase of 1.5% over the same period. Of which, foreign-invested enterprises accounted for about 88.16% of the total export turnover of the province.
Notably, among the main export items of the province, rice is the item with the highest and most impressive growth. Accordingly, the export volume of rice reached 75,102 tons, with a value of 38.37 million USD, an increase of 132.1% in volume and 81.1% in value over the same period.
“Regarding the rice export market, the Philippines is Tien Giang's largest rice market in the first quarter of 2025, accounting for nearly 50% in value, up 98% over the same period. Next is the South African market, accounting for 33%; China accounts for 7.13%, up 12.14%... in the total rice export turnover of the province. In addition, it also exports to a number of other markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong (China)...", Mr. Luu Van Phi emphasized.
At the same time, domestic trade activities also continued to maintain growth and flourish. Accordingly, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the first quarter of 2025 reached more than VND 22,659 billion, up 5.98% over the same period, reaching 23.48% of the annual plan. Of which, the trade sector reached nearly VND 17,346 billion, up 5.1% over the same period...
