Mr. Le Ba Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - said that in 2024, Vietnam welcomed 5 foreign inspection delegations to inspect food safety.
In particular, the EU inspected the residue control program in aquaculture and honey. Notably, for the first time, the EU did not send a draft report but immediately concluded that "Vietnam complies with European regulations on residue control in these two areas".
In addition, in 2024, Vietnam will also welcome inspection delegations from Japan, Canada, South Korea and Indonesia. Like the EU inspection delegation, these delegations all assessed that Vietnam continues to maintain a food safety control system for seafood, meeting the requirements set out.
It is expected that this year, the number of inspection teams will be the same as in 2024. The EU has not yet had an official schedule, while China has announced plans to send a team to Vietnam around June to assess the seafood food safety control system, especially focusing on live products such as crabs, shrimp and lobsters...
Since the beginning of the year, the number of seafood shipments warned of antibiotic residues has decreased slightly with only 16 shipments, accounting for 0.1%, compared to 0.16% in the first quarter of 2024. Mr. Le Ba Anh suggested that the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance continue to coordinate closely to maintain effective control of chemical and antibiotic residues in farmed seafood.
