In the first 10 months of 2024, pepper exports reached 1.1 billion USD
In the first 10 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 219,387 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 193,892 tonnes and white pepper reached 25,495 tonnes. The total export turnover reached more than 1.1 billion USD, of which black pepper reached 881.6 million USD and white pepper reached 162.6 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 1.9% (black pepper decreased by 3.3%, white pepper increased by 10.8%), but the export turnover increased by 48.0%.
The average export price of black pepper in 10 months reached 4,971 USD/tonne, an increase of 1,528 USD and white pepper reached 6,626 USD/tonne, an increase of 1,671 USD compared to the same period of 2023.

Forecast for Vietnam’s pepper exports in 2024 and 2025
In the short term, world pepper prices are forecast to fluctuate in a downward trend. However, the downward trend will not last long due to limited supply and increased import demand due to seasonal factors.
The Import-Export Department forecasts that in the last months of this year, Vietnam's pepper export activities will not be favorable due to low domestic supply and low demand from China.
It is expected that in early 2025, our country's pepper export will be favorable thanks to the expected sharp increase in demand from the Chinese market. Meanwhile, after Indonesia's most recent harvest, until February 2025, the world's pepper supply has not been significantly supplemented. This is considered a favorable factor when Vietnam enters the new harvest season in 2025.
Vietnam's pepper imports in the first 10 months of 2024
According to the preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first 10 months of 2024, pepper enterprises spent 108 million USD (equivalent to 2,700 billion VND) to import pepper. Compared to the same period last year, imports of this item increased sharply by 38.2%. In which, enterprises mainly imported pepper from Brazil, Indonesia and Cambodia.
Although we are a country with the world's top pepper output and export, since the beginning of the year, enterprises still have to spend a large amount of money to buy this item.
Pepper is a commodity considered the "black gold" of our country. Currently, Vietnam holds the number 1 position in the world in both production and export. In which, our country's pepper output accounts for 40%, and exports account for 60% of the world market share.
According to the forecast of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, global pepper prices will continue to increase in the next 10-15 years, with the possibility of peaking at VND350,000-400,000/kg. Factors such as limited pepper supply due to El Nino and the demand for clean, organic pepper in developed markets are considered long-term growth drivers for the pepper industry.
For solutions and development orientations, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association recommends that the Vietnamese pepper industry focus on product quality, diversifying export markets and developing brands.
Producing clean, organic pepper and signing long-term contracts with major retailers in Europe will help stabilize output and increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese pepper in the international market.
