Vietnam’s farm-forestry-aquatic product exports in July and the first seven months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s farm-forestry-aquatic product exports reached 34.27 billion USD in the first seven months of 2024, up by 18.8% from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

In the period, the country recorded a trade surplus of 9.42 billion USD in the farm-forestry-fishery sector during the period, surging 60% year-on-year, statistics show.
In July alone, the country’s export value of these products stood at 5.11 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 18.2%.
In the first seven months of this year, the exports of agricultural products reached 18.21 billion USD, forestry products reached 9.41 billion USD, aquatic products reached 5.29 billion USD, and livestock products reached 288 million USD, up by 23.4%, 21.1%, 7.3%, and 4.8%, respectively.
In the period, several commodities posting high export values include timber and wood products with 8.78 billion USD (up by 21.9% year-on-year), coffee 3.54 billion USD (up by 30.9%), rice 3.27 billion USD (up by 25.1%), cashew nuts 2.37 billion USD (up by 22.1%), fruits and vegetables 3.83 billion USD (up by 24.3%), shrimp 2 billion USD (up by 7.5%), and Tra fish 1.02 billion USD (up by 7.1%).
The average export price of many commodities like rice, coffee, rubber, pepper and tea, kept rising in the reviewed period.
The US, China, and Japan remained the largest importers of Vietnamese farm-forestry-aquatic products, with the export value to the US increasing by 21.6% year-on-year, to China increasing by 11.3%, and to Japan increasing by 4%.
Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports in July and the first 7 months of 2024
Vietnam raked in more than 3.8 billion USD from fruit and vegetable exports in the first seven months of 2024, up by 23.4% year on year, according to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT).
In July alone, the country’s fruit and vegetable export value was at 477 million USD, an increase of 18% over the same period of 2023.
According to experts, this export turnover continued to increase due to strong demand from export markets. Of which, increase in export of durian, dragon fruit, and banana contributed to the export value growth.
Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to major markets all recorded high growth rates.
China continued to be the largest export market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
In the first half of 2024, the fruit and vegetable exports to this market reached 2.16 billion USD, up 22% over the same period in 2023, accounting for 64.9% of the total.
The second place was the Republic of Korea with 164 million USD, up 54.6% on year. The third was the US with 157 million USD, up 33.5%.
According to VINAFRUIT, the country’s fruit and vegetable export will continue to be favourable until this year end thanks to abundant supply in the harvest season.
Meanwhile, the increasing demand of the world market is hoped to support for Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export value to surge to 7 billion USD for the whole year, 1 billion USD higher than the plan set by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Vietnam’s rice exports increased by 25,1% in volume in first 7 months of 2024
According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 5,18 million tonnes of rice with a turnover of 3,27 billion USD, an increase of 25,1% in volume and 5,8% in value. % in value compared to the same period last year.
In the first 7 months of the year, the rice cultivation area reached 6,25 million hectares, an increase of 0,2% over the same period last year; harvested 3,82 million hectares, an increase of 1,3%; Average yield is 65,6 tons/ha, an increase of 0,5 tons/ha; rice output on harvested area reached 25 million tonnes, an increase of 2%.
Vietnam’s pepper exports increased sharply in the first 7 months of 2024
In the first 7 months of this year, Vietnam’s pepper exports increased by 40.8% in volume and decreased by 2.2% in value over the same period last year to 164,357 tonnes worth of 764.2 million USD, showed the figure of Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA).
The US was still leading the list of Vietnam’s main pepper export markets with 43,349 tonnes, increased by 48.4% compared with the previous year, accounting for 26.4% of the total market share. It was followed by Germany, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, and China.
In July alone, the country exported 21,771 tonnes of pepper worth of 129.9 million USD, increased by 43.7% in volume and 128.9% jump in value compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam’s coffee exports reach 3.54 billion USD in the first 7 months of 2024
In the first 7 months of 2024, Vietnam exported 964,000 tonnes of coffee, worth of 3.54 billion USD, down by 13.8% in volume but up by 30.9% in value compared to the same period last year, according to a report from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
