AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area fell by 2000 VND to 124,000–124,700VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND124,700/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND124,000. Robusta coffee decreased to 124,000VND per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha; to 124,400-124,500VND per kg in Dak Lak; to 124,600-124,700VND per kg in Dak Nong; to 124,500VND per kg in Kon Tum, and to 124,400-124,500VND per kg in Gia Lai.
According to congthuong.vn, experts estimate that Vietnamese coffee prices could surpass the record peak of $5.5 per kg in late April.
Rising coffee prices enable businesses to improve product quality, invest in processing technology, and diversify products to increase added value. Many companies have focused on developing deeply processed coffee products such as roasted beans, flavoured coffee, and coffee bags to boost export value.
High prices also encourage businesses to expand production and seek additional raw materials from farmers, Thinh said. This will help companies better meet export demands in the context of tightened global coffee supply.
However, high coffee prices bring challenges as well as benefits. They affect production and business costs, especially raw material expenses. This will pressure company profits if they cannot adjust selling prices accordingly.
To maximise opportunities from high coffee prices, experts also suggest Vietnam's coffee industry needs to build a sustainable development strategy, focusing on improving product quality and expanding export markets.
Forecasting coffee market trends for the last six months of 2024, based on factors such as weather conditions, crop yields, and global consumption demand, coffee prices may not cool down soon. Hong explained that the global coffee supply remains unstable due to climate change impacts and geopolitical factors.
However, Vietnam, with favourable climate conditions and government support policies, has a great opportunity to increase production and exports. In general, amidst the volatile global coffee market, the efforts and innovation of Vietnamese businesses and farmers will play a decisive role in maintaining the position and sustainable development of the coffee industry.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that Vietnam's coffee output in the 2023/24 crop year is estimated to decrease by 20% compared to the previous crop year, to 1.47 million tonnes, the lowest in 4 years. It is forecast that output in the 2024/25 crop year will continue to decrease due to unfavorable weather factors and pests causing the area to gradually shrink.
Buon Ma Thuot city of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak - Vietnam’s largest coffee-producing region - has put plans in place to become a global coffee city with a distinctive identity to place it on the world map for lovers of the drink. Buon Ma Thuot is known for its coffee products with exquisite and flavourful blends that are highly favoured worldwide. It also holds an important position in terms of politics and economy, serving as a hub in the Central Highlands region, which boasts beautiful landscapes and cultural, historical, and artistic heritage of significant value. Particularly, the ecological and agricultural conditions have helped the locality produce Robusta coffee of higher quality than many other old-world robusta coffee-producing countries.
