AsemconnectVietnam - This year, the EU and US did not increase clam imports from Vietnam, and the US even reduced imports. However, China and Hong Kong have increased the imports of clam from Vietnam by 508% over the same period last year.

According to the information from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, Vietnam mainly exports brown clams, frozen boiled white clams and clam meat.
Vietnamese clam products are exported to more than 30 markets around the world. In particular, the EU, US and China are the three largest import markets for Vietnam's clams, accounting for 91% of total export turnover.
From the beginning of 2024 until now, the EU and US have not increased clam imports from Vietnam, and the US has even reduced imports. However, the country’s clam exports to China and Hong Kong tended to increase, up by 508% over the same period last year.
In terms of consumption, the Asia-Pacific bivalve market is the largest market. China is the largest consumer market. Besides China, Japan and India are the largest markets in Asia-Pacific. The demand for bivalve molluscs in Asia-Pacific is driven by growing populations, rising incomes and growing awareness of the health benefits of eating seafood. The European bivalve market is the second largest in the world.
This year, Ben Tre clams were recognized by the International Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) as meeting sustainable fisheries standards, and this is the third time Ben Tre clams have achieved this certification. Meanwhile, the demand for green label seafood products in the world is increasing, especially in the EU market.
Therefore, this will be an opportunity for Vietnam to increase exports of high-value clam products.
