AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands increased by 500 VND to VND81,000 to VND84,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

The maximum price for pepper rose to VND84,000 per kg in Binh Phuoc, while in Dong Nai province, the lowest price stayed at VND81,000 per kg. Farmers in Dac Lac and Dak Nong sold pepper for VND83,500 per kilogram, in Gia Lai province for VND81,000 per kilogram, and in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province for VND83,500 per kilogram.
Due to the effects of climate change, this year's harvest in Vietnam is later than last year, and Vietnam's pepper output in 2024 is expected to reach 170 thousand tonnes, down 10.5% compared to 2023.
According to IPC, global pepper output in 2023 will reach 539 thousand tons, down 4.3% compared to 2022, the decrease in output mainly comes from Brazil, India and Indonesia. It is forecast that global output in 2024 will continue to decrease by 1.1%, equivalent to 6,000 tons. Brazil and India are forecast to increase production in 2024, while decreasing in Vietnam.
Other producing countries can maintain pepper output with negligible changes.
China's annual import demand is about 65,000 - 70,000 tons of pepper. Normally, after the Lunar New Year, Vietnam is in peak autumn season, which is also the time when Chinese traders increase their search for goods sources. In 2023, China imported more than 60 thousand tons of pepper from Vietnam, the rest was imported from Indonesia and Cambodia.
