Next is export to the US market reaching over 212 million USD, down more than 3% over the same period last year; Korea reached 187 million USD, up 25%; Japan is 151 million USD, up 7%...
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - said the reason for the sharp increase in fruit and vegetable exports is due to increased demand from China and many other countries. In 2022, China signed a series of protocols with Vietnam, creating many advantages for fruit and vegetable export.
This year, Vietnam has many new exported fruit and vegetable products and many new consumer markets. In particular, durian has been granted more growing area codes, helping to bustle export activities. The output and quality of durian in particular and fruits and vegetables in general have improved this year, helping to stabilize output.
In addition, logistics infrastructure such as roads, warehouses, and delivery yards have been renovated and newly built, helping export activities reduce costs and create more competitive prices compared to competitors.
According to Mr. Nguyen, China is considering allowing Vietnamese fresh coconuts to be officially exported. If approved in the near future, this will also be a series of fruits to join the billion-dollar club. Recently, the US has also allowed Vietnam to export fresh coconuts again (green peeled and partially white fibrous).
According to the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products are increasingly open for export. Authorities are negotiating to open the passion fruit market to the US and Australia; grapefruit to Japan, Korea, Australia, India; durian to India; frozen citrus fruits, coconuts, and durian to China. Fruit export businesses said that fruit and vegetable consumption will continue to increase at the end of the year when China enters the festival season. This country is also increasing the purchase of many new fruits from Vietnam such as purple star apples and red-fleshed jackfruit. It is expected that by the end of 2023, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports will easily reach 5.5 billion USD.
