AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market reached 2.26 billion USD, an increase of 133.6% over the same period last year.

According to the preliminary data from the General Department of Customs, by the end of August of 2023, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports reached 3.55 billion USD, up by 61.8% over the same period last year, surpassing the figure of 3.36 billion USD of the whole year 2022.
Vegetables and fruits were also the commodity group recording the highest growth rate in the agricultural industry in the first 8 months of 2023.
Regarding export markets, China was still the leading market with an export turnover of 2.26 billion USD, accounting for 63.6% of the export turnover of our country's entire fruit and vegetable industry in the first 8 months of 2023.
In comparison to the same period last year, fruit and vegetable exports to this market in 8 months of this year increased sharply by 133.6% and increased by 47.7% compared to the total turnover of the whole year of 2022 (1.53 billion USD).
With a figure of 2.26 billion USD, fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market also set a record compared to the same period of previous years.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association - assessed that this year, China’s reopening after the Zero Covid policy, along with our country's durian fruit being officially exported to this country may promote the breakthrough growth of fruit and vegetable industry turnover to this market.
It is estimated that in the past 8 months, durian exports reached nearly 1.3 billion USD, of which exports to the Chinese market accounted for about 90% of our country's total turnover of this fruit. In addition, China also increased purchases of other fruits such as bananas, jackfruit, dragon fruit, watermelon, etc.
Currently, Vietnam has 16 plant products being exported to China including: bananas, durian, mangosteen, black jelly, rice bran, rice, sweet potatoes, watermelon, dragon fruit, mango, jackfruit, longan, lychee, rambutan, chili, and passion fruit.
Vietnam already has products in the signed Protocol, including: rice bran, rice, mangosteen, black jelly, durian, bananas, and sweet potatoes.
In addition, Vietnam is negotiating to sign protocols with dragon fruit, watermelon, lychee, longan, rambutan, mango, and jackfruit. Chili peppers and passion fruits are being temporarily allowed to be exported. Citrus fruit groups (oranges, grapefruits, etc.) and coconuts are in the technical negotiation stage.
The Plant Protection Department (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has also submitted an application to open the market for custard apple and cardamom.
