DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices increased by 700 VND on June 2

 Friday, June 2,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Friday, Robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area rose by 700 VND to VND60,800 – 61,400 per kg compared to Yesterday due to tight supply, according to Kinhtedothi.com.

Cư M'gar of Dak Lak provided the maximum price of VND61,400/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND60,100/kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND60,800 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, and Lam Ha; to VND61,300 – VND61,400 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND61,300 – VND61,400 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND61,200 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND61,100 - VND61,200 per kg in Gia Lai.
Vietnam's robusta coffee exports in May 2023 increased by 15.7% year-on-year to 165,000 tonnes. However, coffee exports in the first 5 months of the year decreased by 2.2% year-on-year to 882,000 tonnes.
Vietnam’s production of robusta coffee likely shrank in 2023 to the smallest in four years as farmers focused more on growing durians and were drawn away by a property boom.
The coffee harvest fell more than 7% from the previous year to 1.67 million tonnes, according to the median estimate of exporters and traders in a Bloomberg survey. Crop expectations gradually declined as the harvest progressed.
The global market for robusta beans, the preferred type used in instant drinks, has grown as roasters and consumers seek cheaper options to cope with high inflation.
Prices have also been supported by worries about the impact of weather on some key crops. That’s driven futures for the variety up 35% this year in London and to the highest level in more than a decade.
The International Coffee Organization (ICO) projects the global 2022/23 coffee market deficit will widen to -7.3 mln bags from a -7.1 mln bag deficit in 2021/22. ICO projects that 2022/23 global coffee production will increase +1.7% y/y to 171.27 mln bags, and 2022/23 global coffee consumption will increase +1.7% y/y to 178.53 mln bags.
