A wide range of activities will be held during the Peruvian Coffee Week which is scheduled to be held from April 8 to April 15 for the first time in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Embassy of Peru in Vietnam.
The event aims to introduce and promote Peruvian specialty coffee to local consumers, as well as coffee importers and exporters in Vietnam, Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) cited the source as saying.
The Embassy will introduce six specialty coffees from four famous producers, aiming to develop the product in the Vietnamese market. It will also be participating in the International Coffee Exhibition (CafeShow 2023) held in Ho Chi Minh City, with a pavilion introducing premium coffee beans.
It is hoped that the Peruvian Coffee Week will attract coffee-lovers, professional baristas, roasters, and representatives of coffee shops from the two major cities, as well as those from foreign coffee importers and exporters, said the embassy.
According to statistics, Peru is the leading producer and exporter of organic coffee, and the ninth largest coffee exporter in the world. Last year, Peru earned more than 3 million USD from shipping coffee to Vietnam.
Coffee exports from Vietnam are estimated to have decreased 1.6% in the first quarter of 2023 from a year earlier to 572,000 tonnes, equivalent to 9.5 million 60-kg (130-pound) bags, the General Statistics Office said on Wednesday. Coffee export revenue for Vietnam, the world's biggest producer of the robusta bean, fell 2.3% to $1.3 billion in the January-March period, the agency said. The country's coffee shipments in March are estimated at 230,000 tonnes, valued at $522 million.
