Australia and Brazil are the two largest markets for importing ores and minerals from Vietnam

AsemconnectVietnam - Australia and Brazil are the two largest markets for importing ores and minerals from Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2024 with 9.75 million tonnes and 5.96 million tonnes.

According to statistics from General Department of Customs, ores and minerals imported into Vietnam in October 2024 increased by over 46% in both volume and value compared to September 2024 and also increased sharply by 62.4% in volume and 53.3% in value compared to October 2023, reaching nearly 2.39 million tons, worth 257.49 million USD.
In the first 10 months of 2024, imports increased sharply by 29.9% in volume and 27.5% in value compared to the first 10 months of 2023, reaching 21.84 million tons, worth over 2.38 billion USD. The price of ores and minerals imported into Vietnam in October 2024 averaged 107.8 USD/ton, down 0.14% compared to the previous month and down 5.6% compared to October 2023. On average, in the first 10 months of the year, the price of imported ores and minerals reached 109 USD/ton, down 1.8% compared to the first 10 months of 2023.
In terms of markets, Vietnam imported this item from 21 major markets in the first 10 months of 2024. Specifically, Australia is the largest import market for ores and minerals from Vietnam with 9.75 million tons, up 29.4% in volume and 26.9% in value; the import price reached 110.8 USD/tonne, down 1.95%. Brazil is the second largest market with 5.96 million tonnes, worth 681.07 million USD, up 54.2% in volume and 42.3% in value over the same period; the import price reached 114.3 USD/tonne, down 7.8%.
Notably, import volume of ores and minerals from Türkiye recorded a sharp increase of 238,799 tons, worth 35.8 million USD, up 1.447%. Vietnam also imported 192,841 tonnes from India, up 16.31% over the same period last year.
China is the third market, the only one among the 8 largest markets to have a decrease in volume with 32.91% over the same period last year, to 465,594 tonnes.
Among the 8 largest import markets of ores and minerals from Vietnam, there are also Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Accordingly, the import volume from Laos reached 1.6 million tons, up 19.01% over the same period last year; Thailand with 907,245 tons, up 15.21% over the same period last year and Cambodia with 554,640 tons, up 60.38% over the same period last year.
In the ASEAN bloc, Vietnam also imported 74,109 tons from Malaysia, up 137.48% over the same period last year; Myanmar with 3,453 tons, down 45.38%; Singapore with 1,131 tons, down 90.543% over the same period last year.
In terms of turnover, ores and minerals from Australia had the largest import turnover with 1,080 million USD, up 26.86% over the same period last year; Brazil with 681 million USD, up 42.16% over the same period last year.
Vietnam spent 56.47 million USD to import this item from Laos, up 20.21% over the same period last year; from Thailand with 69.50 million USD, up 108% over the same period last year; from Cambodia with 44.8 million USD, up 67.2% over the same period last year.
In the ASEAN bloc, Vietnam spent 15.1 million USD to import ores and minerals from Malaysia, up 67.49% over the same period last year; spent 7.7 and 2.89 million USD to import from Myanmar and Singapore, down 44% and 53.48% respectively over the same period last year.
