Vietnam agricultural markets update – March 7, 2026
Saturday, March 7,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - The agricultural commodity market on March 7 saw coffee and pepper prices rise sharply as global supplies tightened. Other commodities, such as rice and durian, recorded slight fluctuations across different segments.
Coffee prices climbed on supply and logistics risks
Domestic coffee prices in Vietnam also followed the global uptrend. Prices across key producing areas in the Central Highlands were reported in the range of 95,500 to 96,000 Vietnamese dong per kilogram.
Dak Lak and Gia Lai provinces posted the highest prices nationwide after increasing by about 1,200 dong per kilogram, bringing transaction levels to around 96,000 dong per kilogram.
Lam Dong province recorded the strongest increase of the day, gaining approximately 1,300 dong per kilogram to reach around 95,500 dong per kilogram.
Market participants said the current rally reflects a combination of supply constraints, cautious stockholding among exporters, and heightened demand from international buyers seeking to secure robusta supplies ahead of potential shipping disruptions.
Global coffee markets extended gains on March 7 as traders grew increasingly concerned about geopolitical tensions and tightening supply conditions.
Escalating tensions in the Middle East have raised fears of potential disruptions to shipping routes connecting Vietnam with Europe and Gulf markets. These concerns have prompted traders and roasters to secure supplies early, lending additional support to prices.
At the same time, declining output from several major producing countries, including Brazil and Colombia, has intensified supply worries, adding further upward momentum to the market.
On the London exchange, the May 2026 robusta contract rose by 17 dollars to reach 3,751 dollars per metric ton. Meanwhile, arabica futures for the same delivery month on the New York exchange gained 2.55 US cents, settling at 288.8 US cents per pound.
Pepper rebounds as global supply tightens
Vietnam’s domestic pepper market also staged a recovery on March 7 after a brief decline earlier in the week.
Surveys across key pepper-growing regions showed buying prices increasing by between 500 and 2,000 dong per kilogram. The rebound lifted the overall market range back to between 144,000 and 146,000 dong per kilogram.
The upward movement has been supported by expectations of tightening global supply, as production growth remains limited in several major exporting countries.
Dak Lak province and the Dak Nong region recorded the sharpest increase in the domestic market, each rising by around 2,000 dong per kilogram. This pushed local buying prices to approximately 146,000 dong per kilogram, the highest level reported on the day.
In Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, trading prices rose to around 145,000 dong per kilogram. Meanwhile, Gia Lai and Dong Nai provinces recorded slightly lower levels, with transactions typically occurring around 144,000 dong per kilogram.
On the international market, Indonesia’s black pepper export price edged up by about 10 dollars to reach 6,966 dollars per metric ton.
Vietnam’s export price for black pepper remained largely unchanged, trading in a range of about 6,400 to 6,500 dollars per metric ton.
Industry analysts said the pepper market could continue to receive support in the coming months if global inventories remain tight and export demand holds steady.
Rice market sees slight adjustments
Vietnam’s rice market showed limited fluctuations on March 7, particularly across the Mekong Delta region, where trading activity remained relatively stable.
According to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in An Giang province, the price of freshly harvested OM 18 paddy was reported in a range of 6,000 to 6,100 dong per kilogram.
Other rice varieties also traded within narrow bands. Fresh Dai Thom 8 paddy was quoted at around 6,100 to 6,200 dong per kilogram. Fresh IR 50404 paddy was priced at about 5,500 dong per kilogram, while OM 5451 fresh paddy held between 5,800 and 6,000 dong per kilogram.
For processed rice, export-grade raw materials saw slight downward adjustments compared with the previous week.
Export rice material OM 5451 fell by about 400 dong per kilogram to around 8,300 to 8,400 dong per kilogram. Meanwhile, OM 380 export-grade raw rice declined by roughly 100 dong per kilogram to around 7,500 to 7,600 dong per kilogram.
Retail rice prices at local markets remained largely unchanged. Among the varieties available, Nang Nhen rice continued to command the highest retail price at approximately 28,000 dong per kilogram.
On the export front, Vietnam’s fragrant rice with 5 percent broken grains was quoted at between 400 and 415 dollars per metric ton. Meanwhile, 100 percent broken rice was traded in the range of 316 to 320 dollars per metric ton.
Traders noted that rice demand in several importing markets has slowed slightly in recent weeks, leading to minor adjustments in export quotations despite stable domestic supply conditions.
Durian prices diverge across varieties
Vietnam’s durian market recorded mixed price movements on March 7, with different varieties showing contrasting trends.
Prices for Ri6 durian declined at several procurement warehouses in the Mekong Delta, falling by roughly 5,000 dong per kilogram.
As a result, Grade A Ri6 durian dropped to between 100,000 and 103,000 dong per kilogram. Grade B fruit was traded in a range of 85,000 to 88,000 dong per kilogram, while lower-grade fruit classified as Grade C was priced between 43,000 and 60,000 dong per kilogram.
In contrast, premium durian varieties continued to maintain high price levels amid strong demand.
In Dong Thap province, Grade A Thai durian in the VIP category was actively sought after by traders, with prices ranging from 159,000 to 170,000 dong per kilogram.
Similarly, the premium Musang King variety maintained firm prices of around 130,000 to 135,000 dong per kilogram for Grade A fruit.
Other durian varieties also remained relatively stable. Chuong Bo and Sau Huu durians of Grade A quality were commonly traded in the range of 85,000 to 90,000 dong per kilogram.
Market participants said the divergence reflects differences in export demand and supply availability. While Ri6 output has increased during the current harvest cycle, premium durian varieties remain limited in supply and continue to attract strong interest from both domestic and international buyers.
Overall, agricultural markets in Vietnam remain influenced by a complex mix of global supply constraints, shifting export demand and logistical risks. Coffee and pepper are currently benefiting from tight supply conditions and geopolitical concerns, while other sectors such as livestock and certain fruit varieties face more challenging market dynamics.
