Hanoi seeks new impetus to achieve export growth target in 2026
Friday, March 6,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Regarding solutions to boost export growth in 2026, Hanoi identifies exports as an important driving force linked to structural transformation and improving business capacity.
Specific plan for export growth
According to Mr. Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, capital city of Hanoi has key orientations and solutions to create new impetus for export activities in context of the Government setting a high growth target for 2026.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Hiep, entering 2026, Hanoi aims for a GRDP growth rate of approximately 11% with export identified as one of the key drivers, targeting a 12% increase in export turnover. This is a challenging goal but the city has concretized it with clear plans and action programs.
To realize this goal, Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade have advised the City People's Committee to develop a plan to boost exports in 2026 and simultaneously implement a plan to boost exports for a period of 2026-2030. Specifically for 2026, the target has been issued in Plan No.22 dated January 5, 2026, which identifies 6 indicators and 9 key tasks and solutions.
“With goal of achieving a 12% export growth rate in 2026, Hanoi City has developed a plan with 6 targets and 9 tasks and solutions, focusing on a comprehensive approach encompassing markets, products, business support, e-commerce and logistics for export”, emphasized Mr. Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.
Groups of tasks and solutions are relatively comprehensive, covering everything from markets, products, key products, target markets to solutions supporting export businesses, promoting export e-commerce, and developing logistics for exports. In addition, the plan closely follows major policies and orientations of the Government, including requirements related to green economy and sustainable development.
Clear quantification of targets, tasks and solutions not only demonstrates determination of the local government but also places high demands on effectiveness of implementation in context of increasingly shrinking traditional growth potential. This also serves as foundation for the next phase, where the question is not just "how much to increase," but how to increase it and based on new drivers.
Three pillars of export growth for the capital city
With rapidly changing international trade, increasingly stringent requirements for standards, costs and competitiveness, challenge for Hanoi is not just to expand scale of exports, but to choose the right growth drivers that can create a ripple effect and ensure sustainability. Based on this requirement, specific solutions to boost capital city's exports in 2026 have been proposed with a more substantive and clearly focused approach.
Clarifying specific solutions, Mr. Nguyen The Hiep stated that to achieve 12% export growth target in 2026, Hanoi's tasks and solutions will focus on three main drivers:
Firstly, focusing on developing key industries, including electronics, components, deeply processed agricultural products and some processed and manufactured industrial products. These are identified as product groups with significant growth potential, competitiveness and a large contribution to the city's export turnover.
Secondly, promoting application of science, technology and innovation through supporting businesses to increase added value of export goods and improve competitiveness. The focus is on implementing Ministry of Industry and Trade's plans for developing key industries and supporting industries, including content related to digital transformation, technological innovation and supply chain development.
Thirdly, effectively utilizing export markets. Besides maintaining and effectively exploiting stable markets such as the United States, South Korea, China and ASEAN, Hanoi is also aiming to expand into potential markets such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Central Africa. Market diversification is part of a comprehensive set of solutions to support businesses, helping to save costs and time and improve export efficiency.
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, with synchronized implementation of above-mentioned solutions, the city expects to achieve its export growth target for 2026, thereby making a significant contribution to the overall GRDP growth target of the capital. Simultaneously, collaborative role of state management agencies and proactive participation of business community are identified as key factors for the effective implementation of these plans and solutions.
“Export are not just an economic indicator, but a crucial driving force for Hanoi to achieve its GRDP growth target, requiring synchronized involvement of management agencies and the business community,” Mr. Nguyen The Hiep stated.
