Seafood exports to Singapore increased

 Thursday, February 5,2026

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, statistics from the Singapore Enterprise Agency show that in 2025, the total value of seafood imports from the world to Singapore reached SGD 1.2 billion, an increase of 4.2% compared to the same period of 2024.

Regarding demand for major seafood products, the Singapore market continued to have relatively balanced demand for four groups: fresh/chilled fish excluding fish fillets and fish meat (0302); frozen fish excluding fish fillets and fish meat (0303); chilled/frozen fish fillets and fish meat (0304); and processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306), with import values for each group exceeding SGD 200 million for the whole year of 2025 (equivalent to approximately SGD 17-25 million per month).
Of these, processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306) was the group with the highest import value, reaching S$292.8 million annually (equivalent to approximately S$25.4 million/month), accounting for 24% of Singapore's total seafood import value. By the end of 2025, all four groups mentioned above were estimated to record positive growth at an average of 5.6% compared to the whole year of 2024.
In addition to the four main groups above, statistics also showed that the Singapore market has import demand for live fish (0301); processed fish (0305); processed/unprocessed molluscs (0307); and processed/unprocessed aquatic invertebrates excluding crustaceans/molluscs (0308). Among these, the highest import value for the whole year was the processed/unprocessed molluscs group (0307), reaching over SGD 139.5 million. The group with the lowest import value was processed/unprocessed aquatic invertebrates excluding crustaceans/mollusks (0308), at only SGD 25.5 million. This group also continued to see a sharp decline in demand in the Singapore market, decreasing by nearly 20% in import value compared to the same period of 2024 (the figure of the whole year of 2024 also decreased by 21% compared to the same period in 2023).
Regarding partners, for the whole year of 2025, Malaysia and Indonesia were currently the largest and second largest suppliers of seafood to the Singapore market, with import values reaching SGD 159.5 million and SGD 139.1 million respectively, accounting for 13.1% and 11.4% of the total seafood import market share in this market. For seafood from Malaysia and Indonesia, Singapore currently focuses on importing two main groups: processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306) and fresh/chilled fish excluding fish fillets and fish meat (0302).
For the whole year of 2025, Vietnam successfully maintained its position as the third largest seafood supplier to the Singapore market with import value reaching SGD 125.5 million, accounting for 10.3% of the market share, with two main groups: chilled/frozen fish fillets and fish meat (0304) and processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306).
Vietnamese seafood exports to Singapore generally continued to face competition from Norwegian, Japanese, and Chinese seafood. In particular, Norway continued to lead in the fresh/chilled fish excluding fish fillets and fish meat (0302) group with 42.5% of Singapore's import market share for this group; China surpassed Norway to become the 4th largest seafood supplier to Singapore in the third quarter of 2025, after Vietnam, continued to maintain its export strength in the groups of processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306) and processed/unprocessed mollusks (0307), directly competing with products from Vietnam. Japan also surpassed Norway to become the 5th largest seafood supplier to Singapore, after China, with export strengths in the groups of frozen fish excluding fish fillets and fish meat (0303) and processed/unprocessed mollusks (0307).
For the whole year 2025, the value of seafood imports in general (HS03) from Vietnam to Singapore reached SGD 125.5 million, an increase of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 10.3% of the total seafood import market share in this market. Vietnam maintained its position as the third largest supplier of seafood to Singapore, after Malaysia and Indonesia.
Currently, chilled/frozen fish fillets and fish meat (0304) are the highest-valued import group among Vietnamese seafood products into the Singapore market. In 2025, the exports of that group of products to Singapore reached SGD 63 million, a 4.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 29.7% of the market share. This is also the seafood import group where Vietnamese products maintained a dominant position in the Singapore market.
Throughout 2025, besides fish fillets and chilled/frozen fish meat (0304), Vietnam currently only had two other groups with significant import value into the Singapore market: processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306) and processed/unprocessed mollusks (0307), reaching SGD 28.6 million and SGD 15.8 million respectively, accounting for 9.8% and 11.4% of the market share. Import value into Singapore also recorded positive growth (25.4% and 35.8%) throughout 2025.
The trade agreement also noted that, in the coming period, with the stable size of the seafood import market in Singapore, Vietnam will continue to maintain a high market share for chilled/frozen fish fillets and fish meat (0304). However, for other groups, especially the two groups of processed/unprocessed crustaceans (0306) and processed/unprocessed mollusks (0307), in addition to competition from seafood originating from Malaysia and Indonesia, Vietnamese seafood will also have to continue competing with seafood from several countries such as China, Japan, and Norway.
In recent years, Vietnamese seafood has made significant progress in the Singapore market. In 2024, Vietnam surpassed Japan for the first time, continuously maintaining its position as the 5th largest seafood export partner to Singapore for 12 consecutive months. In the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam continued to surpass China and become Singapore's fourth largest seafood export partner. With impressive export figures for the whole of 2025, Vietnam successfully maintained its position as Singapore's third largest seafood supplier, behind only Malaysia and Indonesia. This represented a significant leap from the Top 6 to the Top 3, a remarkable achievement for Vietnam's efforts in promoting and penetrating the Singapore seafood market.
The Vietnamese Trade Office in Singapore advises that, although Vietnam has risen to the Top 3, the difference in export value with competitors such as China and Norway is not yet substantial. Vietnamese businesses need to further strengthen their promotional efforts in the market, continue to innovate technology, and apply advanced machinery and equipment to ensure the quantity and quality of goods, meet the increasingly high demands of the market, and enhance their competitiveness internationally.
For state management agencies, it is recommended to continue promoting the implementation of policies supporting trade promotion, especially supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in digital transformation, application of information technology, and implementation of e-commerce activities; supporting businesses to participate in trade fairs and exhibitions, strengthening the presence of goods in various locations to enhance the presence of Vietnamese goods, promote product brands, business brands and national brands at international trade fairs and exhibitions.
