Imports from China increased sharply

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the calculations from the preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's import value from China was estimated to reach nearly US$186 billion in 2025, a 29.17% increase compared to 2024.

In December of 2025 alone, the import value increased by 10.74% compared to November of 2025, reaching US$18.26 billion, and also a 35.31% increase compared to December of 2024.
The largest group of imports from China in 2025 was computers, electronic products and components, reaching nearly US$186.03 billion, accounting for 40.89% of the total value of all goods imported from this market, an increase of 29.17% compared to 2024.
The group of machinery, equipment, tools and other spare parts imported from China ranks second in terms of value, reaching US$52.9 billion, accounting for 35.09% of the total value, an increase of 35.09%.
The next was the group of textiles, reaching US$10.37 billion, accounting for 68.23% of the total value, an increase of 3.9%; telephones and components reached US$9.8 billion, accounting for 87.02%, an increase of 8.3%.
Notably, some product groups, although not having high export values, showed strong growth compared to 2024, such as precious stones, precious metals and products increased by 832.96%, reaching US$439.8 million; animal and vegetable oils and fats increased by 84.19%, reaching US$34.9 million; and automotive components and parts increased by 76.03%, reaching US$2.47 billion.
Conversely, several import groups that experienced sharp declines included iron and steel of all kinds, down by 22.47%, reaching US$5.8 billion; and other transport vehicles and parts, down by 11.39%, reaching US$281.3 million.
In 2025, China continued to be Vietnam's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching US$256.4 billion, a 24.8% increase compared to 2024. Vietnam's exports to China will exceed US$70.4 billion, a 15.1% increase, notably in electronics, mobile phones, machinery, and agricultural products. However, Vietnam experienced a large trade deficit with China, reaching US$115.58 billion, due to a sharp increase in imports of machinery, components, and raw materials.
