Imports into Vietnam from EVFTA member markets in the first eight months of 2025
Wednesday, October 29,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - According to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in August 2025, Vietnam’s total imports from EVFTA member countries reached USD1.45 billion, down 8.4% from July 2025 and 2.93% year-on-year.
For the first eight months of 2025, imports from this bloc amounted to USD11.39 billion, up 5.38% over the same period in 2024, accounting for 100% of Vietnam’s imports from EVFTA. This indicates that the upward import trend from the EU remains intact, although growth momentum moderated in August, reflecting a slight adjustment in import demand.
By market, Germany continued to rank first with USD355.25 million in August 2025, down 3.01% month-on-month and nearly unchanged year-on-year. In the eight-month period, imports from Germany reached USD2.62 billion, up 5.85%, accounting for 22.98% of total EVFTA imports. Ireland ranked second with USD286.96 million, decreasing 12.49% from July and 5.18% year-on-year. Cumulatively, imports from Ireland were USD2.31 billion, down 5.98%, making up 20.24% of the total. France came third with USD178.56 million, falling 12.02% on the month but surging 28.79% year-on-year, driving its eight-month value to USD1.36 billion (+15.23%). Italy recorded USD157.98 million, down 9.91% from July and 8.54% year-on-year; however, over eight months, imports still increased 5.27% to USD1.32 billion.
Among mid-tier markets, Spain posted USD67.31 million (-17.52% MoM; -7.38% YoY), but cumulative imports rose 18.37% to USD555.02 million. The Netherlands saw a sharp YoY drop (-32.55%) to USD59.12 million, signaling a meaningful adjustment in import demand; yet eight-month imports still edged up 3.32% to USD523.2 million. Belgium recorded USD57.97 million, down 29.64% from July but nearly flat YoY; cumulatively, it achieved USD513.44 million (+20.8%), reflecting a positive recovery trend.
Several markets posted notable growth in August, including Sweden (+17.29%, USD35.51 million), Czechia (+32.31%, USD27.93 million), and Romania (+33.1%, USD17.62 million), indicating a rebound in import demand from Northern and Eastern Europe. Bulgaria surged 96.72% to USD19.24 million, though its eight-month value still fell 10% YoY. In contrast, Finland (-32.16%), Cyprus (-67.28%), and Malta (-54.63%) experienced sharp declines, reflecting contraction in orders from smaller European suppliers.
Within the small-scale group, strong percentage increases were observed despite low absolute values. Lithuania nearly doubled imports month-on-month (+98.39%) and jumped 125% YoY to USD5.06 million. Slovakia fell sharply in August (-38.9%) but still grew 38% over eight months, while Croatia declined 23.27% during the month yet posted a robust 52% YoY increase to USD44.9 million in the period.
Overall, Vietnam’s imports from the EU in August 2025 softened slightly, yet the market structure remained stable, driven by traditional key partners such as Germany, Ireland, France, and Italy. Mid-sized markets including Spain, Belgium, Sweden, and Czechia are increasingly complementing supply chains, while smaller markets such as Lithuania, Croatia, and Bulgaria show high volatility but contribute positively to the diversification of Vietnam’s EU import sources.
