AsemconnectVietnam - The championships will last from October 16 – 19, bringing together 668 athletes and coaches from 18 Asian countries and territories.
Hai Phong's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on October 14 held a press conference to announce details of the 2025 Asian Rowing Championships, the region’s largest rowing event to take place this month in the northern port city.
The championships will last from October 16 – 19, bringing together 668 athletes and coaches from 18 Asian countries and territories, including India, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam. Notably, Jean Christophe Rolland, President of the World Rowing Federation (FISA), will attend the event.
According to the schedule, international delegations and officials arrived in Hai Phong between October 11 – 14, while a four-day training course organised by FISA has been held since October 12. The opening ceremony will take place on October 16, with qualifying rounds on October 16 – 17 and finals and a medal awarding ceremony on October 18 – 19.
The tournament features 20 competition events for both men and women over a 2,000-meter course, involving 364 athletes, 36 international referees, 65 Vietnamese referees, and 25 foreign technicians.
The championship serves as an important opportunity for the athletes to test their performance ahead of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) in Thailand (December 2025) and the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20) in Japan in 2026.
Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and head of the organising committee, said hosting the event is a great honour and an opportunity for Hai Phong’s sports sector to demonstrate its capability in organising international competitions while promoting the image of the country, its people, and the port city.
In addition to the sporting events, the committee has arranged sightseeing tours and culinary experiences for athletes and guests, offering them a chance to explore Hai Phong – a dynamic, friendly city rich in cultural identity./.
