AsemconnectVietnam - Simexco Daklak's largest export market is the EU. In the first 8 months of 2025, the company's coffee exports to this market grew rapidly. In addition, the company also recorded positive signals from Asian market when orders increased sharply in recent times, especially China, Japan and Korea.
Proactively adapting, affirming position in international market
Simexco Daklak's largest export market is the EU. In the first 8 months of 2025, the company's coffee exports to this market grew rapidly. In addition, the company also recorded positive signals from Asian market when orders increased sharply in recent times, especially China, Japan and Korea.
Speaking to a reporter from Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Le Duc Huy, Chairman of Board of Members of Dak Lak 2-9 Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak), said that since the beginning of the year, although domestic coffee prices have decreased at times, export value has still increased sharply due to contracts signed since the end of last year, when prices were high. Therefore, like general picture of coffee industry in the first 8 months of 2025, value of coffee exports of enterprises increased by 60-70% compared to the same period last year due to sharp increase in export coffee prices. In addition to cause of global supply shortage, price of Arabica and Robusta coffee in the world increased to a record level, contributing to increasing Vietnam's export value, the quality of Vietnam's Robusta coffee is also considered higher than that of other countries.
Recently, European Union (EU) has decided to postpone implementation of the EUDR Regulation to December 30, 2026, instead of 2024 as originally planned. This is the second time regulation has been postponed, after European Commission (EC) moved the deadline to the end of 2025. According to experts and businesses in the industry, extending implementation of EUDR by one year creates an important "buffer", helping Vietnamese coffee businesses have more time to review supply chain, invest in traceability technology and strengthen compliance capacity, in order to better meet strict requirements of EU market.
In the first 8 months of 2025, EU is the largest market for Vietnamese coffee exports, accounting for over 63%. In fact, throughout the past time, Vietnam has not delayed preparing and adapting to requirements of this regulation. This demonstrates Vietnam's strong commitment to building sustainable supply chains that do not cause deforestation and meet international standards. This initiative helps Vietnam be ready to meet requirements of EUDR, thereby strengthening its position as a responsible, transparent and sustainable agricultural supplier in international market.
"EUDR regulation is a big challenge but also an opportunity to restructure coffee industry in a sustainable and professional direction. To meet EUDR requirements, with partners in supply chain, businesses still stick to growing areas, produce coffee with sustainability certification, build digital maps and trace origin to each farmer," said Mr. Le Duc Huy.
Regarding quality strategy, Mr. Le Duc Huy said that businesses still accompany supply chain to create Vietnamese specialty coffee products, especially Robusta coffee, to serve new needs, higher demands as well as more stringent requirements on the taste and flavor of customers.
From record growth to sustainable development strategy
According to a report by Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in the first 8 months of 2025, Vietnam's total coffee export volume and value reached 1.2 million tonnes and 6.42 billion USD, up 8.7% in volume and nearly 60% in value compared to the same period last year. Average export price of coffee is estimated at 5,580 USD/tonne, up more than 46%. This is also a record high export level in the history of the industry, helping the Vietnamese coffee industry soon exceed the target of 6 billion USD by 2030, 5 years ahead of schedule.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, forecasts that in 2025, Vietnam will export about 1.5 million tons of coffee, with a turnover of approximately 8 billion USD. This success is attributed to the change in the industry's development orientation, as proportion of deeply processed products such as instant coffee and roasted coffee is increasing, bringing higher added value. At the same time, positive fluctuations of the world market also play an important role.
Regarding development orientation of this industry, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien emphasized that he will continue to promote export of high-end specialty coffee, deeply processed products, added value and instant coffee and promote Robusta coffee segment. In addition, along with maintaining traditional market, he will continue to expand potential markets.
Vietnam is classified by EC as a "low risk" group for deforestation according to EUDR Regulation of European Union, announced in May 2025, helping to reduce burden of post-inspection inspection and create a competitive advantage for Vietnamese coffee enterprises in the EU market.
Global coffee market is currently balanced in supply and demand, with an output of about 168 million bags (60kg/bag) in 2024, led by major producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam and high consumption demand from the EU, the US and China. The market size is expected to increase from 132.13 billion USD in 2024 to 166.39 billion USD in 2029, a CAGR of 4.72%, thanks to the growing coffee consumption culture and higher disposable income.
With impressive growth momentum and a strategy to improve quality, Vietnamese coffee industry is not only aiming for export turnover but also focusing on building a strong brand, increasing deep processing value and affirming its position on the world coffee map.
