World’s best cueists set for Hanoi Open 2025

The Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2025 is taking place in Hanoi from October 7 to 12, gathering 256 cueists from 40 countries.
Now in its third year, the annual 9-ball pool competition is jointly organised by the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Vietcontent, and Matchroom Pool. Having enjoyed two successful editions, the tournament has become one of the most anticipated events on the World Nineball Tour.
Among the participating cueists, 128 are highly ranked players from the World Nineball Tour. With total prize money of 200,000 USD, the event has attracted the sport’s biggest stars.
Fans will see defending champion Johann Chua, World Pool Champion Carlo Biado, Grand Slam winner Fedor Gorst, and leading names such as Jayson Shaw, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, Aloysius Yapp, Mickey Krause, and rising talent Albert AJ Manas.
Vietnam have 68 representatives, including 40 players who earned their places through qualifying rounds. National standouts such as Duong Quoc Hoang, Nguyen Anh Tuan, Dang Thanh Kien, Bui Truong An, and Luong Duc Thien will compete alongside the world’s best. Their participation not only showcases the progress of Vietnamese billiards but also provides valuable experience and international exposure.
Tran Thuy Chi, General Director of Vietcontent, emphasied that the championship is more than a world-class sports event. It is also a meaningful social occasion connecting people, spreading humanictic values, and promoting the community spirit through sports.
Running alongside the main competition, the Hanoi Junior Open 2025 will spotlight emerging talents. The youth tournament will host 64 players under 17 years old from around the world, giving them a chance to experience a professional atmosphere and gain competition experience.
With a prize fund of 10,000 USD, it also aims to contribute to the sustainable development of billiards by nurturing the next generation of players.
The Hanoi Open Pool Championship has grown into a major sporting brand that enhances Vietnam’s reputation for hosting international-calibre events. The tournament highlights Vietnam’s rising role on the global billiards map and reinforces Hanoi’s position as a hub for world-class sports./.
