 Monday, August 25,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, domestic coffee prices opened this morning, August 25, 2025, fluctuating between 123,500 - 124,000 VND/kg, remained unchanged compared to yesterday.

Last week, coffee was strongly supported by weather news from Brazil.
In Di Linh, Lâm Hà, and Bảo Lộc (Lâm Đồng province): VND123,500/kg.
In Cư M'gar (Đắk Lắk): VND124,000/kg;
In Đắk Nông (Lâm Đồng province): VND124,000/kg;
In Gia Nghĩa and Đắk R'lấp: VND123,900/kg.
In Gia Lai: VND123,800/kg in Chư Prông, and VND123,700/kg in both Pleiku and La Grai.
In Kon Tum (Quảng Ngãi province): VND123,700/kg.
World coffee market: Reports of frost damage in several coffee-growing regions in Brazil also contributed to the price surge. In addition, declining inventories on both exchanges helped maintain the upward momentum of coffee during the week.
At the close of the latest session, Robusta coffee prices in London rose by USD130/tonne for November 2025 delivery to USD4,650/tonne, and by USD137/tonne for January 2026 delivery to USD4,524/tonne.
On the New York exchange, Arabica coffee for December 2025 delivery rose 13.3 cents/lb to 378.3 cents/lb, and for March 2026 delivery rose 13.35 cents/lb to 368.5 cents/lb.
For the week, Robusta coffee (November 2025) increased by USD583/tonne, while Arabica (December 2025) rose by 34.3 cents/lb. Along with the London market rally, domestic coffee prices climbed by an average of VND6,500 – 8,000/kg.
According to experts, last week coffee was strongly supported by weather concerns in Brazil. Somar Meteorology reported that Minas Gerais, Brazil’s largest Arabica coffee-growing region, received no rainfall in the week ending August 16. Reports of frost damage in some areas also pushed prices higher.
Coffee was further supported by concerns of tighter supply from Central America, as U.S. buyers are cancelling coffee contracts with Brazil due to a 50% tariff. This has constrained U.S. supply, given that about one-third of its coffee comes from Brazil.
The Brazilian Ministry of Commerce reported that Brazil’s coffee exports in July fell 20.4% year-on-year, down to 161,000 tonnes. Declining inventories on both exchanges also helped sustain coffee’s rally. A weaker U.S. dollar and speculative activity last week continued to drive prices upward.
Experts forecast that coffee prices will maintain their upward trend this week. If the U.S. government does not adjust the tariff rate on Brazilian coffee, Arabica may return to its peak levels, thereby also boosting Robusta prices on the London exchange.
Tight global supply and recovering demand from major markets have driven Vietnam’s coffee exports to nearly USD 6 billion in the first seven months of 2025 - the highest level in history.
Customs data shows export volume rose just 7.4% year-on-year to 1.06 million tonnes, but value surged 64.9%. The average export price reached USD 5,672.2 per tonne, up 53.4% from the same period in 2024. Coffee trade surplus hit USD 5.78 billion, an increase of 66%.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment attributed the milestone to soaring global coffee prices amid supply shortages and strong demand recovery in key markets including the EU, the US, Japan, South Korea, and China. Vietnamese companies have also invested heavily in processing technology, traceability, and leveraging free trade agreements to raise added value and expand market reach.
Germany, Italy, and Spain remain the top buyers. Germany imported nearly 159,000 tonnes worth USD 871 million, up 103.5% in value. Exports to Italy reached USD 450 million and to Spain USD 444 million, up 52% and 62.6% respectively. Notably, exports to Mexico skyrocketed to USD 172 million, nearly 91 times higher than the USD 1.9 million recorded in the same period last year.
Despite pressure from new US countervailing tax policies, the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects exports to maintain growth in the remaining months thanks to improved supply and continued strong global demand.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, global coffee output in the 2025/26 season is projected to reach a record 178.7 million bags (60kg each), with Vietnam’s output forecast at 1.85 million tonnes - the highest in four years. Global consumption is also set to hit a record 169.4 million bags.
