Daily: Domestic pepper prices decreased on July 15, 2025

 Tuesday, July 15,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, domestic pepper prices on July 15, 2025, ranged VND138,000 – 140,000/kg, down VND1,000/kg compared to yesterday.

The International Pepper Community (IPC) also lowered export prices in Indonesia and Brazil, both of which were recently notified of higher U.S. tariffs effective from early August 2025.
• Đắk Lắk: VND140,000/kg (↓VND1,000)
• Đắk Nông (Lâm Đồng): VND139,000/kg (↓VND1,000)
• Gia Lai, Đồng Nai, Bình Phước, BR-VT: VND138,000/kg (↓VND1,000)
Domestic traders have slowed down purchasing, waiting for clearer export signals and international price developments.
Latest IPC data:
• Black pepper:
o Lampung (Indonesia): USD7,240/ton (↓2.11%)
o Brazil ASTA 570: USD5,800/ton (↓7.3%)
o Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA: USD8,900/ton
• White pepper:
o Muntok (Indonesia): USD10,092/ton (↓0.84%)
o Malaysia ASTA: USD11,750/ton
• Vietnam pepper:
o Black 500 g/l: USD6,440/ton
o Black 550 g/l: USD6,570/ton
o White: USD9,150/ton
The IPC’s sharp price reductions in Indonesia and Brazil reflect the impact of upcoming U.S. tariffs — 50% for Brazil and 32% for Indonesia. In this context, Vietnamese pepper may gain a competitive edge in the U.S. market.
According to IPC, last week’s market showed mixed trends:
• Prices in India (both domestic and export): declined
• Indonesia: black pepper down, white pepper stable
• Malaysia: white pepper stable, others declined
• Sri Lanka: domestic prices increased
• Vietnam: black pepper prices declined, white pepper steady
• Cambodia: black pepper prices rose, while white pepper in China remained unchanged
Vietnam has completed its 2025 harvest with an impressive 274,100 tons—an increase of nearly 12,000 tons over last year—on a slightly expanded cultivation area of 110,600 hectares. This bumper crop coincides with historically high prices: black pepper is quoted around 6,240–6,370 USD/ton for export, while in-country spot prices have surged to 139,000–144,000 VND/kg, reflecting a tight supply and strong downstream demand.
Despite a 12.4% drop in export volume in the first half of 2025, export value soared 35.7% year-on-year as average prices rose more than 54% to 6,881 USD/ton. Export destinations are diversifying, but competition—particularly with Brazil and Indonesia—is intensifying due to new US tariffs. Strategic shipment acceleration and market expansion are becoming crucial for Vietnamese exporters looking to hit the ambitious 1.35 billion USD annual target. Sustainability and traceability are also taking center stage, reflecting global buyers’ growing preferences for natural and organic spices. With shifting weather patterns, evolving trade policies, and rising global demand, the pepper market is at a pivotal point, and market participants must navigate both opportunity and volatility in the quarters ahead.
