Thursday, July 10,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - In the first half of 2025, agricultural, forestry and fishery product exports will reach 33.5 billion USD. To achieve export target of 65 billion USD, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment assigns tasks to each item
In the first half of the year, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports grew by 14.3%
Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that despite many difficulties and challenges, the whole industry has made efforts in the first 6 months of 2025, total export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is estimated at 33.5 billion USD (up 14.3%) and imports are estimated at 23.5 billion USD (up 12.8%) compared to the same period in 2024.
In particular, export value of agricultural products is estimated at 18.3 billion USD, up 16.8%; livestock is estimated at 264 million USD, up 10.1%; aquatic products are estimated at 5 billion USD, up 14.5%; forestry products are estimated at 8.7 billion USD, up 8.8%; export value of 9/11 commodity groups continued to grow, namely coffee, rubber, pepper, cashew nuts, livestock, seafood, wood and wood products, although there were 2 commodities that tended to decline in export value, namely rice (2.6 billion USD, down 9.8%) and vegetables and fruits (2.7 billion USD, down 17.1%).
Maintaining production, strengthening supply chains and competitiveness, diversifying inputs, paying attention to origin issues and improving product quality; standardizing production processes and products according to international standards, ensuring transparency, clear traceability, avoiding the risk of applying trade defense measures; helping to reduce risks for businesses and facilitating trade negotiations are some of factors that helped the export of the whole industry reach an estimated 100% of planned target and grow by 14.3% over the same period.
In addition, acceleration of export promotion by competent authorities to markets in the second quarter to achieve maximum export value; increasing trade promotion activities, diversifying export markets and taking advantage of 17 signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) has brought positive results to the export activities of enterprises.
Along with that, specialized agencies under the Ministry proactively coordinate with border localities in the Northern region to monitor, update and forecast the situation of goods circulation in the area to ensure regulation of means of transport, limit congestion, and affect the progress of goods export.
With goal of maintaining exports and maintaining and stabilizing traditional markets, exploiting and redirecting potential markets to achieve the export target of 65 billion USD in 2025, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment strives to achieve target of total export turnover in the third quarter of 2025 reaching 14 - 15 billion USD; In the fourth quarter of 2025, the whole industry will accelerate export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, taking advantage of the opportunity of increased demand for agricultural products at the end of the calendar year, holidays and Tet to strive to achieve the growth target of 16 billion USD or more.
Set specific targets for each product
Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy commented that due to impact of complex and unpredictable political, economic and social factors in the world, directly and deeply affecting the agricultural sector, it is forecasted that in the last 6 months of the year, total export turnover can reach an estimated 31.6 billion USD, down 4.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
Therefore, in this period, drastic actions are needed to continue to maintain exports in traditional markets and supplement suitable product lines, supplement some product groups that can increase export value in potential markets, such as seafood to China, Japan, Korea, ASEAN; Wood and wood products to China, Japan, EU markets; spices, fresh fruits to Korea, Japan, ASEAN; coffee to China, Japan, ASEAN.
In particular, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also sets targets for each industry. Specifically, for wood and wood products, exports need to reach about 10.1 billion USD in the last 6 months of the year; for seafood, exports need to reach 5.4 billion USD; for rice, exports need to reach 3.1 billion USD; fruit and vegetable exports need to reach 4.9 billion USD; pepper exports need to reach 0.53 billion USD; cashew exports need to reach 2.3 billion USD. For coffee alone, the export turnover in the first 6 months of the year reached about 5.5 billion USD, so coffee export turnover is likely to exceed the planned target of 7.5 billion USD in 2025, an increase of 36.9% compared to the same period in 2024.
Talking to reporters of Industry and Trade Newspaper, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Nguyen Quoc Manh said that for fruit products, the number one priority when exporting to strict markets such as China, Japan and EU is quality and food safety. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to not causing deforestation and forest degradation, especially with coffee and rubber trees, to meet the anti-deforestation requirements of export markets such as the EU.
Regarding the Chinese market, regarding the growing area code and packing facility code, Mr. Ngo Xuan Nam, Deputy Director of Vietnam SPS Office, recommended that in the context of converting to a two-tier government model in some localities, if there is a change in the location of the factory, enterprises are required to update information on the CIFER system - portal for management and inspection of imported food of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC).
At the 92nd meeting of the WTO SPS Committee (from June 17 to 20), the Vietnam SPS Office officially worked with GACC to propose creating connectivity in updating location information. The Chinese side basically agreed and committed to notifying the relevant authorities of the changes, while ensuring the maintenance of bilateral agricultural trade. “During the export process, if businesses encounter problems due to address information not matching the data on the system, they can proactively contact the Vietnam SPS Office for support,” Mr. Nam added.
