In the first half of 2025, agricultural, forestry and fishery exports earn 33.84 billion USD

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first half of 2025, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products reach 33.84 billion USD, an increase of 15.5% over the same period in 2024; the whole industry have a surplus of 9.83 billion USD.
The information was given at a regular press conference of Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held on the morning of July 3 in Hanoi. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien chaired the press conference.
The United States, China and Japan are the three largest export markets
At the press conference, Mr. Tran Gia Long, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Finance (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that the export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in June 2025 is estimated at 5.93 billion USD, an increase of 5.3% compared to June 2024; bringing the total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of 2025 to 33.84 billion USD, an increase of 15.5% over the same period in 2024.
In which, export value of agricultural products reached 18.46 billion USD, an increase of 17.8%; the export value of livestock products reached 264.4 million USD, an increase of 10.1%; export value of aquatic products reached 5.16 billion USD, up 16.9%; export value of forestry products reached 8.82 billion USD, up 9.3%; export value of production inputs reached 1.13 billion USD, up 23.6%; export value of salt reached 5.7 million USD, up 2.4 times. By region, Asia is the largest export market for Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products with a market share of 42%. The next two largest markets are the Americas and Europe with market shares of 23.5% and 15.6%, respectively. The market shares of the two regions of Africa and Oceania are small, accounting for 3.2% and 1.2%, respectively. Compared to the same period last year, the estimated export value of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of 2025 to Asia increased by 2.3%; the Americas increased by 18.7%; Europe increased by 46.3%; Africa increased by 99.5%; and Oceania increased by 2.7%.
In terms of detailed markets, the United States with a market share of 21.1%, China with a market share of 17.6% and Japan with a market share of 7.2%, are the three largest export markets for agricultural, forestry and fishery products of Vietnam. Compared to the same period last year, estimated export value of agricultural, forestry and fishery products of Vietnam in the first 6 months of 2025 to the United States market increased by 16%, China decreased by 0.7% and Japan increased by 25.5%.
Continue to negotiate to open export markets for key products
Sharing at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien said that, in context of economic and political situation in the world and in the country in 2025, along with forecasts of challenges and opportunities intertwined in the coming period, the policy of "Developing agricultural sector according to agricultural economic value chain from production to processing to create added value, improve product competitiveness and develop the market, solve output for agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the domestic and export markets" continues to be consistent orientation in implementing the Strategy for development of Vietnam's agricultural sector in the new period.
To continue to promote increase in value, quality and export market share of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment focuses on perfecting and specifying institutions that guide the development of agricultural markets and integration in accordance with the amended and promulgated specialized Laws; Focus on implementing mechanisms and policies to remove bottlenecks and build sustainable agricultural supply chains, improve quality, value, competitiveness and reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in domestic and international markets.
Continue to implement Development Strategies for each crop, livestock, aquaculture and forestry sector to maintain production, ensure supply for domestic consumption and export; proactively develop, deploy and adjust production plans according to the value chain, respond appropriately and promptly to market developments to limit supply-demand imbalances and price fluctuations.
Strictly manage quality of production, processing and product certification to ensure market standards and regulations, trace the origin of products, as a basis for developing Vietnamese agricultural product brands.
Promote consumption of agricultural products in the domestic market and diversify the export markets for agricultural, forestry and fishery products, contributing to the development of industry and the country in the new period. At the same time, research and deploy tasks to better exploit the Chinese market, ensuring stable output for agricultural products; Strengthen market development activities, connect and promote agricultural products in large markets but the market share is not yet commensurate such as the EU and Japan. Continue to negotiate to open export markets for key product groups such as fruits and potential product groups with much room for increased exports such as livestock products.
