AsemconnectVietnam - As a flagship annual event, the Vietnam National Karate Championship plays a crucial role in offering athletes competitive experience and in promoting public awareness of the importance of physical fitness and sports participation.
The 2025 Vietnam National Karate Championship, co-organised by the Hue Department of Culture and Sports and the Sports Authority of Vietnam, officially kicked off at the central city’s Sports Centre on the morning of June 26, attracted nearly 500 athletes from 34 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide.
Competitors will battle for medals in both Kumite (sparring) and Kata (forms), across individual and team events. The competition spans various age groups and weight classes for both men and women.
According Vu Son Ha, head of the Karate Division at the Sports Authority of Vietnam and President of the Southeast Asian Karate Federation, the national championship is the most prestigious annual event for Karate in Vietnam. With the participation of numerous national team members and elite athletes from across the country, the tournament promises high-level performances and fierce competition, he said.
Notably, this year’s event is being held in Hue — the host city of Visit Vietnam Year 2025 and a historically significant hub for the development of Vietnamese Karate. Organisers hope the championship will not only celebrate the sport’s heritage but also serve as a vital platform to scout and select top talent for the national team, ahead of major international events such as the 33rd SEA Games, the Asian Games (ASIAD), and the Olympic Games.
As a flagship annual event, the National Karate Championship plays a crucial role in offering athletes competitive experience and in promoting public awareness of the importance of physical fitness and sports participation. It also provides a valuable opportunity to evaluate local coaching standards and training programmes, thereby contributing to the continued growth and professionalisation of Karate in Vietnam.
The championship will run through June 30./.
