Tuesday, May 27,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - This six-day tournament is a significant milestone as it is not only the first to take place in Vietnam but also allows domestic cueists, both professional and amateur, to compete alongside the world’s top players.
The International 3-Cushion Carom Billiards SCTV Cup 2025 – the first of its kind in Vietnam – was opened in Ho Chi Minh City on May 26.
This six-day tournament is a significant milestone as it is not only the first to take place in Vietnam but also allows domestic cueists, both professional and amateur, to compete alongside the world’s top players.
It consists of two stages: the qualifying round and the main round. The qualifying round takes place from May 26 to 29 and is held in an open format, enabling a wide range of players to participate.
From a pool of 256 competitors in the qualifying round, a single-elimination format will be used to select the two best players who will advance to the main round.
The main round will consist of eight players, including six invited players and two who qualify through preliminary rounds. Players will be divided into two groups and compete in a round-robin format. The top two players from each group will advance to the semi-finals, vying for the championship title.
The six invited players are in the top 10 of the Union Mondiale de Billiard (UMB) world rankings, namely Tran Quyet Chien (world No.2), Tran Thanh Luc (world No.4), Tayfun Tasdemir, Heo Jung Han, Kim Jun Tae, and Bao Phuong Vinh.
Prizes total 790 million VND (30,480 USD), with the champion receiving 500 million VND. This is the highest prize ever awarded in a 3-cushion carom billiards tournament held in Vietnam./.
