Vietnam domestic fertilizer market – April 2025

AsemconnectVietnam - In April 2025, domestic fertilizer prices slightly increased compared to March 2025. Overall, prices for most fertilizer types remain high relative to previous years.

 
  • Central Region:
    Phu My and Ninh Binh urea prices rose by VND10,000 per bag, ranging from VND600,000 to VND630,000 per bag. NPK 20-20-15 Dau Trau saw a notable increase of VND 20,000 per bag, currently priced between VND950,000 and VND980,000. Phosphate fertilizers remained the lowest in the region at VND270,000 – VND300,000 per bag.
  • Southwestern Region (Mekong Delta):
    Urea Phu My prices increased by VND10,000 per bag to around VND580,000 – VND600,000 per bag. Meanwhile, NPK 20-20-15 Ba Con Co maintained its price, ranging from VND850,000 to VND900,000 per bag.
  • Southeastern Region and Central Highlands:
    Prices for several fertilizers edged up. Urea Ca Mau and Phu My increased by VND10,000–20,000 per bag to VND600,000 – VND650,000 and VND590,000 – VND630,000 per bag, respectively. NPK 16-16-8 remained stable at around VND650,000 – VND750,000 per bag.
  • Northern Region:
    Fertilizer prices held steady. NPK 16-16-8 Viet Nhat and Phu My were priced at VND730,000 – VND780,000 and VND740,000 – VND770,000 per bag, respectively. Urea prices ranged from VND570,000 to VND600,000 per bag.
According to preliminary data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in March 2025, Vietnam imported approximately 483,818 tons of fertilizer, valued at USD144.15 million, with an average price of USD297.9/ton. This represented a 1.7% decrease in volume but a 2.1% increase in value and a 3.8% rise in price compared to February 2025. Compared to March 2024, imports rose significantly—up 12.8% in volume, 16.9% in value, and 3.6% in price.
In the first quarter of 2025, fertilizer imports totaled 1.35 million tons, worth USD430.27 million, with an average price of USD318.8/ton—up 20.5% in volume, 22.3% in value, and 1.5% in price year-over-year.
  • By Country:
    China remained the largest supplier, accounting for 43.1% of total import volume and 33.7% of total import value. Imports from China reached 581,619 tons worth USD 144.83 million, at an average price of USD249/ton—up 24.7% in volume, 39% in value, and 11.5% in price compared to Q1 2024.
    Russia ranked second with 142,174 tons valued at USD82.68 million (USD581.5/ton)—up 1.2% in volume but down 1.4% in value and 2.6% in price.
    Laos followed with 101,392 tons, valued at USD26.45 million (USD260.9/ton)—up 21% in volume and 16.3% in value but down 3.9% in price.
    Notably, imports from Norway surged sharply, reaching 22,479 tons worth USD13.35 million—up 161% in volume and 193.9% in value year-on-year.
  • By Trade Bloc:
    Imports from RCEP markets in Q1 2025 totaled 865,694 tons, valued at USD216.64 million—up 19.6% in volume and 26.3% in value year-on-year.
    Imports from CPTPP countries reached 157,806 tons, worth USD33.29 million—up 1.8% in volume and 1.7% in value.
    From ASEAN countries, imports stood at 153,936 tons, worth USD43.8 million—rising 15% in volume and 2.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported 266,682 tonnes of fertilizer in March 2025, valued at USD90.92 million, with an average export price of USD340.9/ton. Compared to February 2025, exports rose by 42.7% in volume and 23.1% in value but declined by 13.8% in average price. Compared to March 2024, export volume surged by 79.2%, value increased by 44.9%, while the average price fell by 19.2%.
In the first quarter of 2025, total fertilizer exports reached 600,835 tonnes, worth USD225.38 million, at an average price of USD375.1/ton—an increase of 20.2% in volume and 8.5% in value but a decrease of 9.8% in average export price compared to the same period in 2024.
  • By Market:
    Cambodia remained the largest export market, accounting for 23.6% of total export volume and 19.2% of export value. Exports to Cambodia reached 141,621 tonnes worth USD43.16 million, at an average price of USD304.8/tonne—up 36.8% in volume and 1.6% in value, though the average price dropped by 25.7% year-over-year.
    South Korea ranked second, importing 83,804 tonnes worth USD33.54 million (USD 400.2/ton)—up 21.6% in volume and 15.9% in value, though the price declined by 4.6%.
    Malaysia followed with 45,138 tons valued at USD17.9 million, at an average price of USD396.6/ton—up 40.6% in volume, 63.4% in value, and 16.2% in price compared to Q1 2024.
  • Notable Markets:
    Fertilizer exports to Laos recorded a sharp increase, reaching 20,027 tonnes worth USD 7.02 million—up 143.3% in volume and 299.8% in value year-over-year.
    Exports to Taiwan also surged significantly, with volume and value both increasing by over 102% to 27,094 tonnes valued at USD11.47 million.
