DAILY: Domestic pepper prices remained unchanged on April 15, 2025
Tuesday, April 15,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - According to Kinhtedothi, domestic pepper prices ranged from 154,000 to 157,000 VND/kg on April 15, 2025, unchanged compared to yesterday.
While local prices remain stable, international markets are showing mixed signals — with prices rising in Brazil but falling in Indonesia. In Vietnam, the harvest season is entering its final stage. Many farmers believe the crop has underperformed this year, leading to expectations of higher prices.
• In Đắk Lắk Province: VND157,000/kg.
• In Đắk Nông: VND156,500/kg.
• In Gia Lai: VND154,000/kg.
• In Đồng Nai: VND154,500/kg.
• In Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu: VND155,000/kg.
• In Bình Phước: VND154,000/kg.
Harvest in final stages, farmers hopeful
As the harvest season nears its end, many farmers are reporting lower yields and believe this will support higher prices in the coming weeks. Experts advise that while prices may see slight dips now, in the next 1-2 months, farmers will likely influence market prices. They suggest only selling enough to meet immediate financial needs, instead of mass selling, to avoid running out of stock when prices rise again.
From now until the end of the year, supply and demand will continue to be the main price drivers. Even if the US imposes tariffs on Vietnamese pepper, global supply shortages could still push prices higher.

Regional and global market observations
The IPC also reported that last week:
• Despite the Indian Rupee dropping 1% against the US dollar (to 86.25 INR/USD), both domestic and export pepper prices in India increased.
• In Sri Lanka, domestic pepper prices have continued to rise for seven consecutive weeks.
• In Southeast Asia, the Indonesian market reopened this week after a one-week break for Eid al-Fitr, resulting in low trading activity.
• In Malaysia, both domestic and export pepper prices fell last week.
• In Brazil, black pepper prices also declined slightly.
• In Cambodia (black pepper) and China (white pepper), prices remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, in the US and Europe, the market has remained sluggish, with no price changes for the past three weeks.
Vietnam is a global powerhouse in pepper exports, accounting for 40% of global output and 60% of market share. In 2024, the country exported approximately 230,000 tons of pepper worth USD 1.31 billion.
The US remains Vietnam’s top market. Last year alone, it imported 72,300 tons of Vietnamese pepper, valued at around USD 409 million - 31% of Vietnam’s total pepper export turnover. In the first quarter of 2025, nearly 47,300 tons were exported, earning USD 324.6 million. Though volume dropped 16.7% year-on-year, export value rose 37.8% thanks to high prices.
In Q1 alone, the US imported 11,019 tons of Vietnamese pepper, worth USD 83.4 million, accounting for 25.7% of total pepper exports.
