 Thursday, March 27,2025

AsemconnectVietnam - Currently, Vietnam is the second largest textile and garment exporter in the world with great potential and commitment to sustainable development.

''Greening'' the textile and garment industry is considered an advantage when participating in the global supply chain. Many international textile and garment manufacturers investing in Vietnam are considered an opportunity to promote the strong development of the textile and garment industry.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, among all the industrial export products of Vietnam today, textile and garment is the industry with high export turnover and growth rate and is one of the key export industries, playing an important role in the growth of the economy, accounting for 12 - 16% of the total export turnover of the country. In 2024, textile and garment export turnover reached nearly 44 billion USD, an increase of 11.26% compared to 2023, bringing Vietnam to the second position in the world after China.
According to statistics from Vietnam's textile and garment industry, there are about 7,000 companies and more than three million workers, with 80% of production capacity used for export and 20% for domestic consumption. The development of this industry is supported by a well-developed logistics network, skilled labor and a stable political environment. On the other hand, some of the key trends that are influencing the future direction of Vietnam's textile and garment industry include increasing sustainability and technological advancement.
With favorable trends, along with 17 new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that Vietnam has signed and taken effect, by 2025, Vietnam's textile and garment industry aims to reach an export turnover of 48 billion USD, continuing to affirm Vietnam's strong position in the global supply chain.
Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas), said that this year, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry has certain advantages from a number of important milestones achieved in 2024. With the process of applying and producing modern textiles on a large scale, Vietnam's developing textile and garment industry has brought great growth prospects to domestic and international enterprises. Moreover, recent years have shown that Vietnam has rapidly transformed itself into one of the world's key textile and garment manufacturers. Currently, many Vietnamese enterprises are also applying environmentally friendly materials, including organic cotton, recycled polyester and Tencel, etc. Meanwhile, many global brands manufacturing in Vietnam are committed to implementing the "Fashion Industry Charter on Climate Action" with the goal of achieving zero net carbon emissions by 2050. In addition to sustainability, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry also applies advanced technology in design and production. Throughout the textile and garment industry, investors focus on optimizing production capacity, streamlining supply chains, and improving product quality to maintain competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
