DAILY: Vietnamese coffee prices remained unchanged on March 3, 2025
Monday, March 3,2025
AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area, remained unchanged to 127,500 - 129,500 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.
One of the main reasons for last week’s price drop was the devaluation of Brazil’s currency (the Real) against the USD. The continuous decline of the Real over eight consecutive sessions prompted Brazilian farmers to sell off their stock.
• In Lâm Đồng province (Di Linh, Lâm Hà, Bảo Lộc): 127,500 VND/kg
• In Đắk Lắk province (Cư M'gar, Ea H'leo, Buôn Hồ): 129,500 VND/kg
• In Đắk Nông province (Gia Nghĩa, Đắk R'lấp): 129,500 - 129,400 VND/kg
• In Gia Lai province (Chư Prông, Pleiku, La Grai): 129,500 - 129,400 VND/kg
• In Kon Tum province: 129,400 VND/kg
Global Coffee Market Update:

o May 2025 contract down 46 USD/ton, at 5,330 USD/ton
o July 2025 contract down 47 USD/ton, at 5,290 USD/ton
• Arabica coffee futures on the New York market:

o July 2025 contract remained at 364.75 cents/lb
Weekly Recap:

• Arabica coffee (May 2025 contract) dropped by 16.2 cents/lb
• Domestic coffee prices declined by an average of 4,500 - 5,000 VND/kg
Market Forecast:
Experts suggest that the devaluation of the Brazilian Real has significantly impacted coffee prices. Over the past eight sessions, Brazilian farmers have increased selling pressure, pushing Arabica prices down by 16.2 cents/lb.
• Robusta coffee is also facing strong pressure as exporters sell aggressively due to fears of further price drops.
• Short-term outlook: Prices may continue to decline slightly due to abundant supply. The latest projections indicate that Robusta prices could drop another 100-150 USD/ton if buying interest does not return soon.
• Mid-term outlook: The market could recover. However, risks remain due to ongoing global economic instability.
• According to a Reuters survey, Arabica coffee prices could decline by 30% by the end of 2025, potentially reaching 6,200 USD/ton.
Economic Impact:
New U.S. economic policies have significantly affected global financial markets, which in turn has influenced coffee prices worldwide.
Weekly Outlook:
Experts predict that the bearish trend will likely continue, given the unstable financial and currency markets. After two weeks of sharp declines, speculative buying on both exchanges remains high.
China’s coffee imports soar, with Vietnam emerging as a key supplier:
China is paying record prices for Vietnamese coffee, making Vietnam its third-largest supplier. Find out why demand for Vietnamese beans is soaring.
While keeping coffee import prices low from other countries, China has been quietly paying premium prices for Vietnamese coffee, significantly increasing its imports. As a result, Vietnam has become China’s third-largest coffee supplier, surpassing Ethiopia.
According to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs, in January 2024, China spent nearly $14 million to import 3,773 tons of coffee from Vietnam. This accounted for 4.8% of Vietnam’s total coffee exports, up from 2.8% in 2023.
In 2024, China has intensified its high-priced coffee imports from Vietnam, making it a major player in the market.
China increases coffee imports while paying premium for Vietnamese beans
Statistics from China Customs reveal that in 2024, China imported 190,900 tons of coffee from 58 countries and territories, with a total value of $972.6 million. This marks an increase of 24% in volume and 21.5% in value compared to 2023.
Notably, while China’s average coffee import price from the world fell by 2.1% to $5,095 per ton, the country’s average import price from Vietnam surged by 62.7%, reaching $4,176 per ton. Meanwhile, coffee import prices from Colombia and Ethiopia saw sharp declines.
China spent nearly $101 million to import 24,100 tons of coffee from Vietnam. Compared to 2023, the import volume increased by 65.8%, while the value skyrocketed by 169.8%.
As a result, Vietnam’s coffee market share in China jumped from 9.44% in 2023 to 12.62% in 2024, pushing Vietnam past Ethiopia to become China’s third-largest coffee supplier, trailing only Brazil and Colombia.
China emerges as a growing coffee consumer market
Experts note that in recent years, China has emerged as a major coffee consumption market, with import volumes steadily rising.
With its strong growth in coffee consumption, China presents a significant opportunity for Vietnamese coffee exporters. Vietnamese businesses are well-positioned to capitalize on geographical proximity and strong trade relations to further boost coffee exports to China in 2024.
