According to preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, in January of 2025, the country imported nearly 403,558 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to over 107.42 million USD, with an average price of 266.2 USD/tonne, up by 9.9% in volume and by 6.5% in value compared to December of 2024, but the price decreased by 3.1%. Compared to January of 2024, it decreased by 24.6% in volume, 31.3% in value and 8.9% in price.
Brazil was the largest market supplying wheat to Vietnam in January of 2025, accounting for 52.1% of the total volume and 50.5% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, reaching over 210,269 tonnes, equivalent to 54.28 million USD, the average price was 258 USD/tonne, a sharp increase of 50.6% in volume, an increase of 50.5% in turnover but a slight decrease of 0.07% in price compared to January of 2024.
The second largest market was Australia, accounting for 15.5% of the total volume and 16% of the total turnover, reaching 62,371 tonnes, equivalent to 17.2 million USD, the average price was 275.8 USD/tonne, a sharp decrease of 63% in volume, 63.9% in turnover and 2.3% in price compared to December of 2024. Compared to January of 2024, it also decreased by 71% in volume, 75.2% in turnover and 14.2% in price.
The next was the Canadian market with 54,565 tonnes, equivalent to 16.61 million USD, the price was 304 USD/tonne, accounting for 13.5% of the total volume and 15.5% of the total wheat import turnover of the country, a sharp increase of 2,154% in volume, an increase of 1,919% in turnover but a decrease of 10.4% in price compared to January of 2024.
Wheat imports from the Russian market reached 61,794 tonnes, equivalent to 15.51 million USD, the price was 250.9 USD/tonne, an increase of 265.6% in volume, an increase of 258.4% in turnover but a decrease of 2% in price compared to January of 2024.
