Imports and exports reached over 63 billion USD in January

AsemconnectVietnam - Both exports and imports in January of 2025 decreased compared to the same period of 2024, according to statistics from the General Department of Customs.
Specifically, in January, exports reached 33.2 billion USD, down by 6.6% compared to the previous month and down by 4% compared to the same period last year.
In the first month of the year, there were 7 export groups with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more. Leading the way were computers, electronic products and components with over 6 billion USD, up by 13.3% compared to the same period of 2024.
Phones and components ranked second with a turnover of 4.83 billion USD, down by 13.2%. Meanwhile, third was machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with 3.86 billion USD, down by 4%.
In addition to the top 3 above, the remaining billion-dollar groups were textiles; footwear; wood and wood products; means of transport and spare parts. Of these four groups, only textiles and garments grew slightly by 1.8%, the remaining groups had a decrease in turnover.
In contrast, goods imports in January reached more than 30 billion USD, down by 14.1% compared to the previous month and down by 2.6% compared to the same period of 2024.
The reason why export and import turnover in January decreased compared to the same period last year was because the month included the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday, while the Lunar New Year holiday last year fell in February of 2024.
In the first month of the year, Vietnam had a trade surplus of more than 3 billion USD.
Previously, in 2024, the total import and export turnover of the whole country reached 786.29 billion USD, the highest ever and increased by 15.4% (equivalent to an increase of 105.22 billion USD) compared to the previous year.
Of which, exports reached 405.53 billion USD, up by 14.3% (equivalent to an increase of 50.81 billion USD) and imports reached 380.76 billion USD, up by 16.7% (equivalent to an increase of 54.41 billion USD).
