Processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.6% in January

Key industries increased over the same period last year
According to the latest report on the socio-economic situation in January of 2025 announced by the General Statistics Office on February 6, regarding industrial production, due to the Lunar New Year taking place in January of 2025, the number of working days was less than the previous month and the same period last year.
The report showed that the industrial production index in January of 2025 was estimated to decrease by 9.2% compared to the previous month and increase by 0.6% compared to the same period last year, in which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.6%.
The industrial production index (IIP) in January of 2025 was estimated to decrease by 9.2% compared to the previous month and increase by 0.6% compared to the same period last year. In which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 1.6% compared to the same period last year; electricity production and distribution increased by 0.4%; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities increased by 9.2%. In particular, the mining industry decreased by 10.4%.
Notably, the growth/decrease rate of the production index in January of 2025 of some key secondary industries compared to the same period last year was as followed: motor vehicle production increased by 33.8%; production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 10.6%; production of leather and related products increased by 10.3%; production of clothing increased by 6.1%; textiles increased by 4.2%; production of electronic products, computers and optical products increased by 3.8%; production of products from other non-metallic minerals increased by 3.5%; food processing increased by 2.1%.
On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries decreased, such as the production of drugs, pharmaceutical chemicals and medicinal materials decreased by 29.1%; mining of hard coal and lignite decreased by 20.1%; production of electrical equipment decreased by 11.5%; production of chemicals and chemical products decreased by 8.4%; printing and copying of all kinds of records decreased by 7.9%; exploitation of crude oil and natural gas decreased by 6.5%.
The industrial production index in January of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in 47 localities and decreased in 16 localities nationwide. Some localities had a fairly high increase in the IIP index due to the high increase in the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry.
On the contrary, some localities had a low increase or decrease in the IIP index due to the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry and the electricity production and distribution industry increased low or decreased.
Notably, some key industrial products in January of 2025 increased highly compared to the same period last year, such as automobiles increased by 60.7%; televisions increased by 50.1%; NPK mixed fertilizer increased by 13.7%; natural fiber textiles increased by 9.6%; fresh milk increased by 7.3%; powdered milk increased by 5.7%; casual clothes increased by 5.0%. On the other hand, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: Clean coal decreased by 20.0%; phone components decreased by 14.1%; motorbikes decreased by 12.0%; diameter decreased by 10.7%; LPG decreased by 9.2%; crude oil decreased by 8.2%; chemical paint decreased by 6.8%; steel bars and angle steel decreased by 6.7%.
