Leather and footwear industry aims to increase its export growth by 10% in 2025
Thursday, January 9,2025AsemconnectVietnam - In 2025, the leather and footwear industry aims to increase its export growth by 10% compared to 2024, reaching a turnover of about 29 billion USD.
In 2024, the total export turnover of leather and footwear was estimated to reach 27.04 billion USD, an increase of 11.45%; of which, footwear exports reached 23.24 billion USD, an increase of 13.16% and the exports of suitcases-bags-briefcases reached 3.8 billion USD, an increase of 9.7% over the same period of 2023.
Mr. Thuan emphasized that Vietnam has many competitive advantages in the leather and footwear industry, including an abundant labor force with competitive costs, rich sources of raw materials, investment attraction policies, and especially international economic integration through many FTAs that have attracted many FDI enterprises.
Vietnam's leather and footwear industry ranks third in the world in footwear production, but is still mainly processing for export, so the export turnover of FDI enterprises accounts for about 75% of the industry's total export turnover.
The country’s leather and footwear exports have taken full advantage of free trade agreements, especially the EVFTA and CPTPP market blocs. In 2024, many enterprises have signed many large export contracts. In addition to traditional markets, through trade promotion activities, enterprises in the leather and footwear industry have been expanding to new markets such as the Middle East, South America, Africa, etc..
The US was still the main export market of Vietnam's leather and footwear industry, accounting for 36.5% of the total value of footwear exports to the world in 11 months. The next were the EU markets (accounting for 8.5%), China (8.5%), Japan (4.7%), South Korea (2.9%), followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, Spain, Italy, Australia, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia.
The total export turnover to 16 major countries in the world accounts for 89% of the total turnover of the industry. However, some other export markets still saw a decrease, or even could not export due to the impact of conflicts such as Russia and Uzbekistan. Therefore, businesses in the industry have expanded exports to some markets in South America and the Middle East with large and diverse consumption potential. In particular, sports shoes - a strong product of Vietnam is dominant, this item can also help the industry's exports grow quickly and strongly to the Middle East in the short term. In addition, this market also consumes sandals, but the quantity is not large.
