AsemconnectVietnam - On Thursday, robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area, rose by 100 VND to 112,800–113,500 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND113,500/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND112,800/kg. Robusta coffee increased to VND112,800 per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha; to VND113,400-113,500 per kg in Dak Lak; to VND113,400-113,500 per kg in Dak Nong; to VND113,300 per kg in Kon Tum, and to VND113,300- 113,400 per kg in Gia Lai.
According to calculations from data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam's coffee export turnover to major markets in the EU region tends to increase sharply compared to the same period in 2023 thanks to rising prices. Coffee exports to the German market were the largest with 471.8 million USD (equivalent to 129.9 thousand tonnes), up 43.9% in value but down 11% in volume over the same period in 2023, accounting for 30.46% of Vietnam's total coffee export turnover to the EU market, lower than the proportion of 29.83% in the same period in 2023. Export prices averaged 3,631 USD/tonnene, up 63.9% over the same period last year.
Particularly in August 2024, coffee exports to Germany reached 8.2 thousand tonnes, valued at 43.8 million USD, down 8.86% in volume and down 1% in value compared to July 2024 and down 0.2% in volume and up 91.3% in value compared to August 2023. Coffee prices exported to Germany this month reached an average of 5200 USD/tonnene, up 8.5% over the previous month and up 91.3% over the same period last year.
Vietnam and Netherlands amp up cooperation in final stretch for EU deforestation regulation. Experts believe that European Union’s Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) compliance will not only elevate export standards but also provide an opportunity to transform Vietnam’s agriculture, making it more sustainable and transparent, and aligning it with the country’s international commitments to green growth.
This topic was the centre of discussion at a technical meeting on EUDR, held jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the Netherlands Embassy in Vietnam.
The event was organised at a pivotal time as the EUDR will come into force in less than three months, on December 30, 2024. Vietnam’s key exports, such as coffee, rubber, and wood products, will be subject to the regulations.
Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer, and the largest in terms of Robusta coffee production.
The Netherlands, due to its geographical location, serves as a primary gateway for Vietnamese coffee into Europe. Vietnam and the Netherlands have also been strategic partners in sustainable agriculture for the past decade.
In a significant boost to Vietnam's sustainable coffee industry, the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) has awarded a non-refundable aid package of 575,000 EUR (630,786 USD) to Phuc Sinh Corp to support its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives in the coffee production, processing and export chain.
The grant, comprising 75% in cash and technical support, is the largest ever allocated to a Vietnamese company by the DFCD.
The DFCD, an initiative of the Dutch Government with a 160 million EUR budget, focuses on enhancing the resilience of communities and ecosystems vulnerable to climate change. Its priorities include clean water, environmental sanitation, forestry and sustainable agriculture.
