 Monday, September 23,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, robusta coffee prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands, the country's largest coffee-growing area, remained unchanged at 119,500–120,000 VND per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.

Gia Nghia of Dak Nong provided the maximum price of VND120,000/kg, while traders in Lam Dong province offered the lowest price of VND119,500/kg. Robusta coffee stayed at 119,500VND per kg in Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha; at 119,900-120,000 VND per kg in Dak Lak; at 120,000 VND per kg in Dak Nong; at 120,000VND per kg in Kon Tum, and at 119,900- 120,000VND per kg in Gia Lai.
Vietnamese coffee farmers are moving away from traditional coffee cultivation, opting instead for durian due to the fruit's rising demand in China and its higher profit margins. As the leading global producer of Robusta coffee, Vietnam is witnessing a decline in coffee exports as durian farming becomes more prevalent. Vietnam’s Coffee Production Hit by Weather Extremes
A drought followed by heavy rain has affected the coffee belt in Vietnam, leading to a 10% to 15% decrease in this season’s harvest. The extreme weather conditions have caused coffee trees to produce fewer and smaller beans, impacting the overall yield.More than 95% of Vietnam’s coffee output next season will be robusta, contributing to a surge in prices. The growing popularity of instant coffee drinks has further fueled the rise in robusta prices.Volcafe predicts a global robusta deficit in the upcoming season, marking the fourth consecutive year of shortages.
Indonesia, another key robusta producer, is expected to see an increase in coffee output in 2024. However, rising domestic demand may limit the amount available for export, potentially impacting global markets. Acreage dedicated to coffee cultivation in Vietnam has been decreasing as farmers switch to alternative crops. Reduced groundwater and shade pose long-term challenges for coffee production in the country. The USDA forecasts a decline in Vietnamese robusta production in the upcoming season, reflecting a longer-term trend of decreasing output.
Robusta coffee is likely to gain market share due to its tolerance to heat and disease compared to arabica. However, both varieties face significant climate risks, which could lead to elevated prices for consumers worldwide. The delayed Vietnamese coffee shipments due to weather conditions may further impact market dynamics and prices. Despite expectations of easing prices, consumers may still experience higher coffee prices in the near future. The ongoing challenges in Vietnam’s coffee industry and global market dynamics suggest a need for consumers to prepare for potential price fluctuations.
In conclusion, the current situation in Vietnam’s coffee industry, coupled with global market trends, highlights the interconnected nature of the coffee market and its impact on consumers worldwide. Stay informed and aware of these developments to make informed decisions about your coffee consumption and budget.
