Vietnam to cut raw exports and strengthen exports of processed and manufactured industrial goods

 Wednesday, August 14,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - In recent times, many factors have helped the export of processed and manufactured industrial goods maintain its leading position in the total export turnover of the country.

However, according to economic experts, although the processed and manufactured industrial goods account for the majority of the import-export turnover structure, this industry still has many limitations. Import-export activities continue to depend on a number of markets, goods and FDI sectors. Some key export items to major markets (EU, US) continue to face pressure from trade defense investigations, technical barriers related to the environment, sustainable development, green transformation; etc.
Industrial enterprises, especially export enterprises, continue to face difficulties in expanding and diversifying markets due to high input material costs and compliance costs (especially with new regulations and standards). Supporting industrial enterprises still lack market information and opportunities to approach customers.
Therefore, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the structure of export goods continues to improve in a positive direction, reducing the content of raw exports, increasing the export of processed and manufactured industrial goods, creating conditions for Vietnamese goods to participate more deeply in the global production and supply chain. The group of processed industrial goods continues to account for the majority (85%) in the export turnover structure.
On the part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, it is also necessary to have policies and solutions to financially support industrial enterprises, especially processing and manufacturing enterprises, so that enterprises have stable production and business conditions.
The solutions include to build and effectively implement industrial and supporting industry development programs in the area, to focus on improving the capacity of small and medium enterprises, enterprises restructure, reduce costs and production prices to enhance product competitiveness, thereby improving efficiency and adapting flexibly to the new situation.
In the Project on restructuring the industry and trade sector to 2030, the Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that it will continue to expand exports to effectively exploit market potential in conjunction with shifting the export structure towards products with high technology content, high localization rates, and meeting high standards of quality and sustainable development of markets. The Ministry of Industry and Trade aims to increase the proportion of processed and manufactured industrial goods exports to about 90% by the year, of which the proportion of medium and high technology goods exports will increase to about 70%.
