AsemconnectVietnam - In 5 months, Vietnam's agricultural exports to Russia increased by 48.7%, of which coffee, seafood, cashew nuts and vegetables and fruits are the items that this market has increased imports.
According to preliminary statistics from General Department of Customs, by the end of May 2024, export turnover of agricultural products to Russia reached 331.3 million USD, an increase of 49.7% over the same period last year.
In particular, coffee is an item with the largest export turnover to Russian market, reaching 161.6 million USD, an increase of 39% over the same period in 2023. Next is seafood reaching 76.4 million USD, an increase of 87.7%; cashew nuts reaching 28 million USD, an increase of 81.8%; vegetables and fruits reaching 26.8 million USD, an increase of 25.2%.
In addition, rubber exports to this market increased by 23.8%, wood and wood products increased by 47.6%, rice exports doubled and pepper increased sharply by 96.9%. Compared to the same period last year, only tea recorded negative growth of 12%.
Russia is not a major export market for many types of Vietnamese agricultural products. However, in the first 5 months of this year, agricultural products exported to Russian market increased sharply.
According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, transporting goods from Vietnam to Russia has become more convenient. Russian transport corporations have opened direct transport routes from Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong - Vladivostok (Russia); a number of other shipping lines have operated new routes, helping to transport goods faster and with shorter transport times.
In addition, railway transport system supports delivery to Russia, so transport of goods has become more diverse.
Tariff incentives after Vietnam signed Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement in 2015 also helped Vietnam's agricultural products increase their competitiveness in this market, including Russia.
