In 4 months, exporting phones and components earned more than 18.4 billion USD
Wednesday, May 8,2024AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 4 months of the year, phone and component exports earned more than 18.4 billion USD, up 6.6% compared to 4 months of 2023.
According to General Statistics Office's report, merchandise exports in April 2024 are estimated to reach 30.94 billion USD, bringing export turnover in the first 4 months of 2024 to an estimated 123.64 billion USD, an increase of 15% over the same period last year.
Of which, domestic economic sector reached 33.62 billion USD, an increase of 21%, accounting for 27.2% of total export turnover; foreign invested sector (including crude oil) reached 90.02 billion USD, an increase of 12.9%, accounting for 72.8%.
Exports to major markets such as the US, EU and China all grew by double digits. Of which, the United States is Vietnam's largest export market with an estimated turnover of 34.1 billion USD, an increase of 19.1% over the same period in 2023. Exports to China reached 18 billion USD, an increase of 14.1% over the same period in 2023, to EU reached 16.4 billion USD, up 15%, to Korea 8.4 billion USD, up 10.2%.
The whole country recorded 21 items with export turnover of over 1 billion USD, accounting for 86.4% of total export turnover (there were 5 export items with export turnover of over 5 billion USD, accounting for 57.8%).
Notably, phone and component exports in April 2024 earned more than 4.2 billion USD, up 9.1% over the same period last year. Accumulated in the first 4 months of the year, this item has earned more than 18.4 billion USD, an increase of 6.6% compared to the first 4 months of 2023, continuing to be the item with the second largest turnover after cameras and camcorders, films and components.
Vietnam has surpassed India to become the world's second largest smartphone exporter after China. Currently, Vietnamese smartphones account for 13% of the global market share.
Among them, the United States is Vietnam's largest customer for this product. Accordingly, in the first quarter of 2024 alone, this market spent more than 3.05 billion USD for importing phones and components from Vietnam, an increase of 30.4% over the same period in 2023. Ranked 2nd is Chinese market with more than 2.5 billion USD, down 28% over the same period last year.
Notably, the United Arab Emirates has risen to become Vietnam's third largest customer with 897,984 USD, a sharp increase of 55.3% over the same period last year.
