Exports are favorable, dragon fruit prices soar
Wednesday, April 24,2024AsemconnectVietnam - In many dragon fruit growing areas in Tien Giang, Long An, Binh Thuan, dragon fruit price is fluctuating around 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg.
In recent days, dragon fruit growers across the country have been happy as the price of off-season dragon fruit continues to be high. Recorded in many dragon fruit growing areas in Tien Giang, Long An, Binh Thuan, price of type 1 dragon fruit is over 40,000 VND/kg, type 2 is 35,000 - 38,000 VND/kg, type 3 is from 30,000 - 33,000 VND/kg, increasing from 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg compared to last month.
Mr. Luu Van Binh, a dragon fruit farmer in Tan Thuan Binh commune, Cho Gao district, Tien Giang province, shared that dragon fruit is currently at a good price with grade 3 dragon fruit, warehouse purchasing price is 33,000 VND/kg then dropping to 31,000 VND/kg. Price of type 2 dragon fruit is 38,000 VND/kg, type 1 price is 43,000 VND/kg. At this price, the gardener earns a profit of nearly 20,000 VND/kg.
In Binh Thuan, Mr. Tran Van Hong in Ham Thuan Bac district said that in the past two months, dragon fruit growers here were all happy when traders came to the garden to buy dragon fruits at high prices.
"Many traders still compete to pay a deposit to the garden owner to buy goods. My family just sold more than 3 toenns of off-season dragon fruit for 35,000 VND/kg of white-fleshed dragon fruit and after deducting costs, we made a profit of more than 50 million VND. Currently, the family has nearly 2 tonnes ready to harvest", Mr. Hong said.
Explaining reason for this growth, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vina Fruit) said that normally from December to April, China promotes import of dragon fruits to ensure domestic consumption demand. In particular, in the first quarter of 2024, a need to buy dragon fruit to display during Lunar New Year and Qingming Festival caused price of Vietnamese dragon fruit to stay at a high level.
Along with that, currently, area of dragon fruit across the country also tends to decrease due to low price of dragon fruit in 2023, causing many gardeners to switch to growing other crops such as durian, jackfruit... Meanwhile, in the Dragon fruit growing areas are facing saline drought, causing dragon fruit production to decline.
Currently, in addition to the Chinese market, Vietnamese dragon fruit is also exported to many other markets such as Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea... However, Mr. Nguyen also noted, from May to March 11, China will enter dragon fruit harvest, so dragon fruit prices may decrease again.
