In just the first half of January this year, fruit and vegetable exports reached nearly half a billion USD

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first half of January 2024, fruit and vegetable exports was estimated to reach nearly half a billion USD, an increase of over 89% over the same period last year and the industry expect to reach 6.5 billion USD in 2024.

According to a preliminary report from General Department of Vietnam Customs, the country's fruit and vegetable exports in the first 15 days of January 2024 are estimated to reach 459 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2023, this number increased by over 89% and compared to the previous month, it is over 12%.
With this promising start, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association believes that fruit and vegetable exports will reach a turnover of 6.5 billion USD in 2024.
Pointing out reasons, Mr. Nguyen said that currently quality of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables has had a major shift, ensuring criteria for entering many markets. Besides, diversity of products with many fruit items is popular in the world market. In particular, currently many large markets such as China and EU have made very positive changes and moves.
Accordingly, entering 2024, after negotiating and signing a protocol with China, Vietnam will officially export coconut products, frozen fruits and watermelons. Not to mention, frozen durian may be allowed to be imported into the country. Mr.Nguyen said that if frozen durian is allowed to be exported to this market, fruit and vegetable export turnover in 2024 will continue to surge.
Previously, in 2023, fruit and vegetable exports reached a value of 5.6 billion USD, an increase of 167% compared to the previous year. In particular, Chinese market reached 3.6 billion USD, an increase of 238% compared to 2022. In group of 10 most important markets, most of them grew quite well, except for Thailand, Taiwan and Russia, which decreased slightly.
