Amount of export poultry eggs only accounted for 1% of production output
Friday, January 19,2024AsemconnectVietnam - The country's poultry egg output is up to 19.22 billion eggs. Out of which, amount of exported eggs is only about 1%.
Report of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of December 2023, total poultry herd in our country was nearly 559 million, an increase of 3.3% comparing to 2022, including poultry raised for meat and egg-laying poultry.
Total poultry meat output for the whole year was estimated at nearly 2.31 million tons, an increase of 6%; Poultry egg production in 2023 was estimated to reach 19.22 billion eggs, an increase of 5.2% over the same period in 2022.
Notably, our country's poultry eggs (fresh and processed eggs) have been exported to dozens of countries and territories around the world. However, poultry egg exports only account for about 1% of the country's total egg output with the remainder serving domestic consumption needs.
Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest poultry population in the world. However, products of this industry mainly serve domestic consumption needs with exports accounting for an insignificant proportion. The leader of Vietnam Poultry Association said that in 2022, a Vietnamese person consumed an average of 184 poultry eggs, a level quite low compared to many countries.
Therefore, egg-laying poultry farming still has great potential when our country's egg consumption in 2030 is expected to reach 250 eggs/person. Along with that, export opportunities for Vietnam's egg industry are also expanding as we have signed many trade agreements and traditional markets are reopening.
At the end of July 2023, after more than 4 years, Hong Kong market (China) lifted the ban and allowed the import of eggs and poultry egg products from Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces.
In addition, recently, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has completed negotiations on exporting poultry meat and eggs to Mongolia. In context of poultry farming in Mongolia, the proportion is very low, so this is a potential market. Vietnamese poultry egg products will have many advantages when accessing this market.
In 2024, Department of Livestock sets a target that production value of the livestock industry will increase by about 4.0-5.0% compared to 2023; Poultry meat output reaches over 2.31 million tons, up 3.1%; Egg output of all kinds is about 19.68 billion eggs, an increase of 3.7%;...
