Seafood imports fell in first 11 months of 2023
Thursday, December 28,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 11 months of 2023, imports of aquatic products reached nearly 2.37 billion USD, down by 5.1% compared to the first 11 months of 2022.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of seafood products in November of 2023 increased by 15.3% compared to October of 2023 but decreased by 0.9% compared to November of 2022, reaching 227.94 million USD. Overall, for the entire 11 months of 2023, the country’s imports of this group of goods reached nearly 2.37 billion USD, down by 5.1% compared to 11 months of 2022.
India was leading the list of the country’s main seafood import markets, accounting for 13% of the country's total import turnover of this product group, reaching 309.04 million USD, down by 10.6% compared to the first 11 months of 2022.
In November of 2023 alone, the country’s imports of seafood from India reached 25.86 million USD, up by 0.8% compared to October of 2023 but down by 18.2% compared to November of 2022. Norway ranked second, accounting for 10.9%, reaching over 257.87 million USD, an increase of 9.7%. In November of 2023 alone, the imports of seafood from this market reached 33.6 million USD, a sharp increase of 79.6% compared to October of 2023 and an increase of 11.7% compared to November of 2022.
The next was the Chinese market. In November of 2023, the country’s imports of seafood from China increased by 26.3% compared to October of 2023 and increased by 13.6% compared to November of 2022, reaching 20.11 million USD. In the entire 11 months of 2023, the country’s total seafood imports from this market decreased by 0.4% compared to the first 11 months of 2022, reaching over 197.03 million USD, accounting for 8.3% of the total turnover.
The imports of seafood from FTA - RCEP markets in the first 11 months of 2023 reached 736.89 million USD, down by 9% compared to the first 11 months of 2022, accounting for 31% of the country's total import turnover of this product group. Seafood imports from FTA - CPTTP markets reached 340.42 million USD, accounting for 14.4%, an increase of 8.3%.
Seafood imports from Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) FTA markets reached 108.62 million USD, down by 15.2%, accounting for 4.6%. Seafood imports from the Southeast Asian market reached 289.57 million USD, down by 20.3% compared to the first 11 months of 2022, accounting for 12.2%.
