Vietnam’s wheat import markets in 11 months of 2023
Wednesday, December 27,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 11 months of 2023, the amount of imported wheat reached over 3.99 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 1.37 billion USD, an increase of 8.2% in volume, but a decrease of 4% in turnover over the same period last year.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in November of 2023 the whole country imported 267,602 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 78.32 million USD, the average price was at 292.7 USD/tonne, a decrease in volume and turnover and prices compared to October of 2023, with a corresponding decrease of 35.5%, 39.9% and 6.9%. In comparison to November of 2022, the number saw a decrease of 12.8% in volume, a decrease of 33.2% in turnover and a decrease of 23.4% in price.
In the first 11 months of 2023, the country's wheat imports reached over 3.99 million tonnes, equivalent to nearly 1.37 billion USD, an increase of 8.2% in volume, but a decrease of 4% in turnover compared to the previous year. In the same period of 2022, the average price reached 342 USD/tonne, down by 11.2%.
In November of 2023, wheat imports from the main market Australia decreased sharply by 69.4% in volume, 70% in turnover and 1.8% in price compared to October of 2023, reaching 44,842 tonnes, equivalent to 14.17 million USD, the price was at 316 USD/tonne. In comparison to November of 2022, the figure was down by 74.1% in volume, down by 79.7% in turnover and down by 21.6% in price.
For the whole 11 months, wheat imports from the Australian market accounted for 65.7% of the total volume and 65.5% of the country's total wheat import turnover, reaching 2.62 million tonnes, equivalent to 895.33 million USD, down by 1.4% in volume, down by 13.2% in turnover compared to the same period of 2022.
The next was the US market, accounting for 9.3% of the total volume and 10.4% of the total turnover, reaching 372,279 tonnes, equivalent to 141.96 million USD, the average price was at 381.3 USD/tonne, an increase of 48.4% in volume, 21.8% increase in turnover but 17.9% decrease in price compared to the same period of 2022
The Brazilian market ranked third with 261,611 tonnes, equivalent to 95.82 million USD, the price was at 366.3 USD/tonne, down by 19% in volume, down by 14.9% in turnover but up by 5% in price over the same period last year, accounting for 6.6% of the total volume and 7% of the country's total wheat import turnover.
