Cement and clinker exports brought in 1.125 billion USD in 10 months
Thursday, November 9,2023AsemconnectVietnam - Cement and clinker exports were still on a downward trend from 2022, with total output reaching more than 26 million tonnes, worth of 1.125 billion USD, down by 2.4% in value over the same period last year.
Cement exports were gloomy, businesses were under pressure to consume in the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam's cement and clinker exports decreased in both quantity and value.
According to the data from the General Statistics Office, clinker and cement exports in October of 2023 reached 2.6 million tonnes with a value of 103 million USD, up by 22.8% in volume, up by 14.8% in value compared to with October of 2022.
In the first 10 months of this year, the cement industry has exported more than 26 million tonnes of products, earning 1.125 billion USD, equivalent to the output of the same period last year but the value decreased by 2.4%.
Cement and clinker export prices were still in a downward trend, which is the reason why export output has not decreased but the value of foreign currency earned has decreased slightly.
The Philippines continued to be Vietnam's largest export market for this product with more than 6.17 million tonnes, reaching a value of more than 277 million USD after 9 months, an increase of 3% in volume but a slight decrease of 1.4% over the same period last year. The export prices reached an average of 45 USD/tonne, down by 1 USD/tonne compared to the same period last year.
Bangladesh market ranked second. Bangladesh spent more than 167 million USD importing more than 4.47 million tonnes of clinker and cement from Vietnam, an increase of 80% in volume and an increase of 67% in value compared to the same period of 2022. The export price decreased slightly by 3 USD/tonne over the same period last year, reaching 37 USD/tonne.
Cement and clinker exports to Taiwan (China) reached more than 1,292 million tonnes with a value of more than 50.5 million USD, an increase of 4.5% in volume but a decrease of 2.5% in value over the same period last year. The export price reached 42 USD/tonne.
Cement and clinker exports have faced a decline since the beginning of last year. By the end of 2022, the entire industry exported over 30 million tonnes, down by nearly 15 million tonnes (equivalent to a decrease of 33%) compared to the record number of 2021.
The total value of foreign exchange earned from cement and clinker exports in 2022 reached only 1.36 billion USD, down by 398 million USD compared to 2021.
