Vietnam's trade exchanges with largest economies
Friday, October 27,2023AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam's trade exchange with the world's two largest economies, China and the US, still accounts for the majority of Vietnam's total import-export turnover.
In the first 9 months of this year, China maintained its position as Vietnam's largest trading partner, accounting for 24.6% of the country's total import-export turnover.
Meanwhile, China still maintained its position as Vietnam's second largest export market and largest import market.
The United States continued to be Vietnam's largest export market and second largest trading partner.
Bilateal trade exchange between Vietnam and China
China maintained its position as Vietnam's largest trading partner, accounting for 24.6% of the country's total import-export turnover by the end of September.
According to the preliminary statistics figures just announced by the General Department of Customs, in September of this year, Vietnam's exports to China reached 6.25 billion USD, up by 8.1% over the previous month and up by nearly 11.8% compared with the same period last year.
Vegetables and fruits continued to be one of the impressive export groups to the Chinese market with a turnover of 491.2 million USD, up by 84.5% over the previous month and up by 441% over the same period of 2022.
By the end of September, Vietnam’s exports to China reached 42.86 billion USD, up by 3.6% over the same period last year.
There were 10 groups of goods exported to this market with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more in the first nine months of this year.
The top 3 names were: phones of all types and components with 10.9 billion USD; computers, electronic products and components with nearly 10 billion USD; fruits and vegetables with 2.75 billion USD.
On the contrary, the import turnover from China in the past 9 months reached 79.2 billion USD, down by 12.38 billion USD compared to the same period last year.
2 product groups with turnover of 10 billion USD or more were: computers, electronic products and components reaching 16.6 billion USD; machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts reached 16.2 billion USD.
In addition, there were 12 other product groups with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more, including fabric; phones of all types and accessories; iron and steel; products from plastic; raw materials for textiles, garments, leather, shoes, etc.
Thus, by the end of September, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and China reached 122.06 billion USD, of which our country's trade deficit was 36.34 billion USD.
Currently, China continued to remain Vietnam's largest trading partner, accounting for 24.6% of the country's total import-export turnover as of the end of September.
After the first 9 months of the year, China still maintained its position as Vietnam's second largest export market and largest import market.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 9 months of 2023, China was our country's second largest export market with an estimated turnover of 42.2 billion USD, an increase of 2.1%. This is the only export market among Vietnam's major export markets to achieve positive growth (up by 2.1%), while the exports to the other major markets all decreased.
On the contrary, China was still Vietnam's largest import market with an estimated turnover of 79 billion USD, down by 13.6% over the same period last year.
Thus, Vietnam - China trade has officially exceeded the 120 billion USD mark after the first 9 months of the year.
To achieve this result, in recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and localities have well implemented solutions to create maximum convenience for exports to countries sharing a common border. In general, basic goods are not congested, even during peak seasons, contributing to increasing export turnover to the Chinese market.
Bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and the US
The United States continued to be Vietnam's largest export market and second largest trading partner.
According to the preliminary statistics figures just announced by the General Department of Customs, in September of this year, Vietnam's export turnover to the United States reached 8.11 billion USD, thereby increasing the turnover by the end of September to 70.23 billion USD. Despite a decrease of about 15 billion USD compared to the same period last year (the figure of the same period last year reached 85.2 billion USD), the United States was still Vietnam's largest export market.
According to the reporter's observations, most of our country's export product groups appear in the world's largest economy. By the end of September, there were 11 export product groups with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more, of which 3 groups reached 10 billion USD or more.
The product group with the largest turnover was machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts with 12.5 billion USD. The next was computers, electronic products and components reaching 11.82 billion USD; textile and garment reached more than 11 billion USD.
Thus, the three largest product groups alone accounted for more than 50% of Vietnam's export turnover to the US market.
In addition to the three "tens of billions of dollars" product groups, other large product groups included phones and components; footwear; wood and wood products.
On the contrary, by the end of September, the country’s import turnover from the United States reached 10.26 billion USD, down by about 900 million USD compared to the same period last year.
Computers, electronic products and components were the largest imported goods group with a turnover of 2.63 billion USD, this was also the only "billion dollar" group of goods as of the end of September.
In addition, there were many groups of goods imported from the United States with a turnover of hundreds of millions of dollars such as cotton; machinery, equipment, tools, spare parts; scrap iron and steel; animal feed and raw materials.
With the total import-export turnover between the two countries reaching nearly 80.5 billion USD in the past 9 months, the United States continued to be Vietnam's second largest trading partner.
