Over 70% of wheat imported from the Australian market
Thursday, October 26,2023AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of 2023, Vietnam’s imports of wheat reached over 3.32 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.16 billion USD.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in September of 2023 the country imported 225,376 tonnes of wheat, equivalent to 69.19 million USD, the average price reached 307 USD/tonne, a decrease in volume, turnover and price compared to August of 2023, with a corresponding decrease of 37.5%, 39.8% and 3.7%. In comparison to September of 2022, it was down by 37.3% in volume, down by 54.4% in turnover and down by 27.3% in price.
In the first 9 months of 2023, the country's imports of wheat reached 3.32 million tonnes, equivalent to over 1.16 billion USD, up by 2.6% in volume, but down by 6.6% in turnover compared to the same period last year, the average price reached 349.4 USD/tonne, down by 9%.
In September of 2023, wheat imports from the main market Australia continued to increase 6.8% in volume, 4.4% in turnover but decreased 2.2% in price compared to August of 2023, reaching 168,517 tonnes, equivalent to 52.02 million USD, the price was at 308.7 USD/tonne. In comparison to September of 2022, it was down by 43.3% in volume, down by 56.6% in turnover and down by 23.5% in price. For the whole 9 months, wheat imports from the Australian market accounted for 73.2% of the total volume and 71.8% of the country's total wheat import turnover, reaching 2.43 million tonnes, equivalent to 833.94 million USD, the average price was 343 USD/tonne, up by 1.5% in volume, but down by 9.6% in turnover and down by 10.9% in price compared to the same period of 2022.
The next was the US market, accounting for 7.9% of the total volume and 8.9% of the total turnover, reaching 262,792 tonnes, equivalent to 103.43 million USD, the average price of was 393.6 USD/tonne, an increase of 38% % in volume, up by 14.6% in turnover but down by 17% in price compared to the same period of 2022
Brazilian market ranked third with 261,611 tonnes, equivalent to 95.82 million USD, the price was at 366.3 USD/tonne, down by 19% in volume, down by 14.9% in turnover but up by 5% in price over the same period last year, accounting for 7.9% of the total volume and 8.3% of the country's total wheat import turnover.
