Corn imports decreased in first 9 months of 2023
Thursday, October 26,2023AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of corn of all kinds in the first 9 months of 2023 reached over 6.51 million tonnes, worth of over 2.03 billion USD, the average price reached 312 USD/tonne, down by 2.3% in quantity, down by 14.3% in turnover and down by 12.3% in price compared to the first 9 months of 2022.
In September of 2023 alone, the figure reached 1.16 million tonnes, equivalent to 318.12 million USD, the average price was 274 USD/tonne, an increase of 8% in volume and 2.5% increase in turnover compared to August of 2023, but the price decreased by 5.1%. In comparison to September of 2022, it increased sharply by 45.2% in volume, increased by 15% in turnover but decreased by 20.7% in price.
Argentina was the largest market supplying corn to Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2023, accounting for over 37.4% of the total volume and 36.9% of the country's total corn import turnover, reaching 2.43 million tonmes, equivalent to over 748.91 million USD, the price was at 307.6 USD/tonne, a sharp decrease of 43.4% in volume, 51.4% decrease in turnover and 14.2% decrease in price compared to the first 9 months of 2022.
The second largest market was Brazil. In the first 9 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from Brazil reached 2.3 million tonnes, equivalent to 720.48 million USD, priced at 313.9 USD/tonne, accounting for over 35% of the total volume and total import turnover of corn of the whole country, a sharp increase of 384.6% in volume, an increase of 355.5% in turnover but a slight decrease in price of 6% compared to the first 9 months of 2022.
The next was the Indian market. In the first 9 months of 2023, the country’s imports of corn from India reached 1.18 million tonnes, equivalent to 365.87 million USD, priced at 309.8 USD/tonne, accounting for over 18% of the country's total corn import volume and turnover, increased 74% in volume, increased 63.5% in turnover, but price decreased 6.1% over the same period last year.
