DAILY: Vietnamese pepper prices remained unchanged on August 21
Monday, August 21,2023AsemconnectVietnam - On Monday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands remained unchanged at VND69,000 to VND71,500 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.
In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper stayed at VND71,500 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price at VND69,000 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND70,500 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND69,000 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND70,000 per kilogram.
Last week, domestic pepper price lost an average of 1,500 VND/kg.
Ending the session yesterday afternoon, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at $4,255/tonne; Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching black pepper price (Malaysia) ASTA kept at USD4,900/tonne.
Muntok white pepper price 6,626 USD/tonne; Malaysia ASTA white pepper price is still at 7,300 USD/tonne.
Vietnam black pepper price traded at 3,500 USD/tonne with 500 g/l grade, 550 g/l grade at 3,600 USD/tonne; white pepper price at 5,100 USD/tonne.
According to IPC, the pepper market last week had mixed reactions when only Indonesian black pepper prices were reported to increase.
After a slight increase due to concerns about supply shortage in the Indian market, world pepper prices returned to a downward cycle when the dollar recovered. A high dollar reduces the purchasing power of goods, affecting the domestic currencies of exporting countries.
According to experts, the market has not seen any positive signals this week, in the context that some domestic growing areas recorded strong selling force due to concerns about price drop. However, in the long term, pepper prices will recover when domestic supply is low.
The domestic output of pepper this year is estimated at 190,000 tonnes, along with the import volume by the end of July 2023 about 25,000 tonnes. Supply was also supplemented by last year's inventory to about 60,000 tonnes. Thus, the supply this year is about 275 thousand tonnes.
Meanwhile, in the first 7 months of the year, exports and domestic consumption were estimated at 175 thousand tonnes. In addition to the small amount of imports from now until the end of the year, the supply from now until the harvest of the new crop is only about 100,000 tonnes/7 months. Except for 30,000 tonnes, which must be used to reserve the crop, the monthly supply is only 10,000 tonnes.
The World Bank's forecast for some economies such as the US, Europe and China has positive prospects at the end of the year, so the purchasing power of pepper and spices of these markets will prosper again.
